Shoulder injury - pinched nerve? pulled muscle??

I woke up and decided to reach for my phone. I must have overstretched or reached for it at a weird angle because all of a sudden I had a huge pain in my shoulder. I thought I had just pulled a muscle or something because that's what it felt like. But when I got downstairs all of a sudden I couldn't see anything - everything got dark and blurry with white dots, I felt like I was going to puke and pass out, I was weak feeling, and I had this weird sound in my ears that sounded like something deflating. My father says I probably pinched a nerve or pulled a muscle. Should I go to the doctor and have it checked out? Or just rest it and let it heal on its own?
Answer:
Real bad pain can make you even faint, so that's why it's possible to see spots and get sick feeling, and when you are going to faint you always hear a funny muffled sound in your ears.
It could be something like a rotorcuff, that is very painful.
Father-in-law has this and it causes severe pain and has gotten to the point he has very limited motion unless he rests it.
It wouldn't hurt to go see the doc...Pain can cause the symptoms you described...I had a shoulder injury, a minor accident and I'm now permanently damaged, so it wouldn't hurt to have it looked at...

Shoulder Hurts?

I am 12 years old and I started having shoulder pain; about a couple weeks ago, and I'm not sure if it's a tear, sprain or nothing serious. It cracks sometimes, and then comes really bad pain, but I am able to withstand it. Should I see a doctor? I play softball, and I walk like 6 miles with a heavy backpack and a binder in my hand, could those reasons be why?
Answer:
carrying that extra weight definitely is aggravating you shoulder problems. With pain that bad you really need to see your medical doctor. You want to stay active and if you continue using your shoulder when it's injured It could cause you problems for the rest of your life.
i have a torn rotator cuff. my symptoms are pain, especially when i try to lift my arm over my head, weakness, swelling and tingling. my shoulder also feels like it's catching or popping (clicking). are these your symptoms? if so, get to a doctor quickly! even if it is just a sprain, it's better to catch it early before it turns into something else.
Sounds like tendonitis of supraspinatus (one of the rotator cuff muscles). Stop carrying heavy things, at least with that arm, give baseball a rest and apply some ice to the area. Use the back pack like it was intended to be used - on both shoulders, and on YOUR BACK! The cracking is probably a result of scar tissue in the muscle/tendon. Your doctor will ikely suggest rest, ice and prescribe anti-inflammatory.
Yes,definitely, have your Parent take you to see a Doctor, the possibilities are many, in fact too many to get an answer here. It is very important for you to take care of your shoulder, you will be needing it for the rest of your life. There is much that can be done, it depends a lot what the Doctor finds is wrong with it. You can take something for pain like Motrin, Tylenol, Aleve or similar products that may be available at home. Ask your Mom, and just one tablet may be effective. Best wishes and get well soon...
number 1 dont tell ppl ur 12 thats not good i could be a bad person... im not but you justy might be growing tell ur mom or ur dad they might tell ur doc and gat u some help

Should your blood pressure read the same doing consecuative readings?

In other words, if you take a reading on the Left side, record it, should it read the same on the right side immediately following the recording of the left side? and for that matter...does you Blood Pressure read the same on any part of your body within a close time frame?
Answer:
Your blood pressure should be similiar all over your body at any given time, within reason (i.e. if in your right arm it is 120/80, and in your left leg it is 160/100, this would not be within reason).Blood pressure can very a good bit from day to day, but should be the same within 10-20 points systolically (the top number) of each other whenever you take it on different parts of your body.If yours is varying radically, you should probably see a doctor. If you have high blood pressure, you should visit a doctor anyways to be monitored.RN

Should you give a deposit, and should the surgeon inform you of all you should know before paying.?

In many large cities plastic surgeons demand a non returnable deposit when the surgery is scheduled and demand full payment in advance of the surgery. The deposit is 10% of the surgical fee or about $500.00 for a simple face lift. If the surgeon does not inform you of all you should know before payment is made, and then after payment is made, inform you of some unacceptable risks,
If you then cancel the surgery, should you demand that all your payments be returned to you.
Answer:
A doctor should tell the patient all important information about the illness and about the surgery. Reveling dangerous aspects of surgery after receiving a non refundable deposit is tantamount to bait and switch.
Of course.
In Miami and New York, I have heard, there is a lot of problems encountered by people having plastic surgery.
Many patients think that if a plastic surgeon is really a plastic surgeon, board certified and member of the society of plastic surgeons, the patients think that that will protect them from unethical business practices. Far from it, as the question above implies.
The most important thing for me is:
when did the surgeon complete his plastic surgical training ?
If the surgeons training is over 15 years old, bad news. Why? because, even if, the surgeon may know about the latest surgical techniques in plastic surgery, he has not been trained in them and he certainly has not been practicing them. So, sister, get yourself a recently university trained surgeon, your shape is too important to not be careful.
I have heard of some horror stories.
Your question was concerning the financial end of plastic surgery. It stands to reason you would only choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and examine his hospital affiliation, placement on the staff of plastic surgeons at that hospital, and his malpractice insurance coverage. Then check with the local medical association to see if there are any malpractice claims against him/her.
It is really up to YOU to do your homework and find out the correct name of the procedure being done and all the complications that can arise from that procedure, and lastly the recovery time.
Then research it, research it to death. Anything that the surgeon FORGOT to mention, and there should be none if you are going to a good one, should be discussed with the surgeon directly. Don't get a secondary answer through a Nurse or other staff member. If needed to clarify your concerns, the staff should offer you another visit with the doctor free of charge to allay all your questions and concerns.
Now financially. If surgery has to be cancelled because the patient is not well, or the patient changes their mind within a reasonable period of time prior to surgery (usually 10 days,so another surgery can be booked in it's place), you should be entitled to ALL your deposit money back. Because Insurance does not cover 99% of plastic surgery procedures, as I am sure you are aware, the physician wants the full payment for the procedure before that procedure is done, and this is standard procedure. Also one other thing, make sure the plastic surgeon you choose to do the procedure, is the one who actually does the procedure. You can always tell them that there could be a review of surgical records.
I would check out the type of anesthesia that is being used also. I don't mean general, BUT what type of medication will be used. This is something you learn when they have you in for pre-op testing.
Check it all out and you will be a well informed and relaxed patient.

Should you do slower cardio to lose weight?

I've heard that when you run slower you burn more fat. So does this mean that when you are trying to lose weight you should do slower cardio rather than fast? If you do fast cardio will you not lose weight? How fast should you go? If someone could explain this to me it would be very helpful. Thanks!
Answer:
running slower does not burn more fat..the faster and the more intense your excises is, the more calories and fat you will burn...exercise hard..make sure you get tired, sore and sweat a lot..it helps better. =]

Should stitches hurt?

I had a couple of moles removed on my back today and had stitches. They sting now quite a lot and I was wondering if this is normal? I am a bit worried about splitting them by picking things up and such.
Answer:
If you only had them removed today, you mave have had a local anaesthetic, in which case it has worn off, and you are feeling what has been done - which is surgery; an invasive procedure - you were cut in order to remove the moles.
Think about it; if you got those cuts accidentally, they would also hurt or sting for a few days.
you will have a little discomfort for a couple of days allright, but it should not be a huge problem. You could try taking something like Neurofen tonight to help reduce any inflammation or swelling; and also take Arnica, the homeopathic remedy for internal bruising for the next few days - I have used it for years, and found it to be really effective in reducing bruising.
And be kind to yourself for a few days - the body has had a bit of a shock - no matter how minor surgery is, you need time to get better. the stitches are fine, they won't burst; they may just feel a bit tight in a day or so.
yeh they shud
They would of adviced you not to pick up heavy things ect if there was any concern. It will sting and be sore for a few days yet.
Hope it gets better soon. x
yes its quite normal, its the tightening of the skin? just be care-full of what you lift because you could bust them? have you got a plaster over them? if you have when its time to have them removed ,that is if there not dissolving stitches, remove the plaster prior to going to have them removed, because some doctors think its like a hair waxing system and just rip it off? i know Ive had it done, and they also administered the stitches without any anaesthetic..yowwwwccchhh,yes it hurt?
They might sting and itch while the incision heals. I would hold off on any activity that might tear the stitches.
It will be a bit sore but i think that is just normal they will get better soon and they should not split or anything so dont worry. hope you feel better soon x
Very sensible. To be honest they do often sting. What usually hurts the most is the stuff they use to spray the wound. It will be a very small cut. Just go a bit easier for a couple of days, I'm sure the doc would have told you if they were in an awkward place.
yep they hurt
if the doctor who put the stiches in is a good one then they shouldnt split. it is normal for stitches to hurt for a little while because they are holding the broken tissue together whilst it is healing. it just takes time.
its sore on your back.
i know how you feel, had a mole removed from my neck in feb! it stings for the first day or so but afterwards it just becomes a minor irritation while it heals!! the stitches should be fine if your doc has done a good job.
Nuthin like a little bit of pain to let you know you're still alive but that's o.k. because it only hurts 'til the pain goes away!
try putting vaseline on the skin so it doesnt pull the stitches when you move (this also works for tattoos)

Should someone pull a nail out of his head?

do you think if someone has a nail embeeded into his head should he pull it out himself or get medical attention
Answer:
You should never pull out an impaled or lodged object as it may lead to increased bleeding or hemmorage. The treatment of choice is to leave the object in and go to an emergency room as soon as possible, I would recommend calling an abulance.
get medical attention
umm. get medical attention!
Don't pull it out! It may be stopping blood flow. Get to an ER NOW!
No go to the emergency room let a doctor do it!!
He should DEFINATELY get attention. Not sure how the nail got there, but no matter the way the only way it should come out is by a pro who knows what they are doing! Otherwise who knows what could happen!
do not pull it out yourself. it can hook onto parts of the brain with severe repercussions. let the medical people do it.
Why??
medical attention please.!! if the nail has punctured a vein/artery, then he could bleed to death if the nail is extraced by a non-professional
there was a guy with a 6 inch spike in his brain, and they said that if he woul have pulled it out himself, he would have died, because the brain reacts and swells unpredictably, and they have to control it somehow in the hospital.I hope you don't have a nail in your head.
You should get medical attention because if you were to pull the nail out it could cause massive bleeding that the nail was holding back.
No, get medical attention for the nail.
Medical attention would be required for that type of injury.
I think maybe it should have went a little further in their head ...
I had a nail in my eyeball once. Actually it was wedged in between the eyeball and the socket. I pulled it out (first instinct) and it was fine. The eye doctor just had to clean out some debris and my eyeball was scratched a little, but not punctured.SO in my experience, it's a good thing to pull it out and then seek medical attention. But that's your eye, I think in other places you could bleed to death if you remove the nail.
dont even think about it

Should smokers get "Free" healthcare?

Hey,Up here in Canada, healthcare is covered under taxes. Everyone pitches in a bit, and then the government tries to squeeze by without running a deficit of more than a few million (rarely does)But I'm just wondering; with taxes, WE are paying for OTHER PEOPLE'S healthcare. Not that this would normally be a problem, but a couple of weeks ago, a seventy-two year old came in with a hip broken in eight places. It cost $75,650 to fix!THIS MAN RECIEVED HIS INJURY WHILE TAKING SKYDIVING LESSONS. And he was seventy-two.This got me thinking; what about smokers? They choose to smoke, which means they CHOOSE to get lung cancer or whatever.Should we be paying for self-inflicted injuries? Smoking isn't an "accident", I mean, its like they WANT to get lung cancer just to be a burden on society?Just wondering what your opinion is:Should the people have to pay for smoking-related illnesses, or should the individual pay??
Answer:
The question has been asked before especially regarding drug addicts: hard drugs, alcoholics and now smokers.I believe that they are obviously hurting themselves deliberately, so all damage costs should be waived in the face of their own choices, but we should pay for rehabilitation if at all possible. They are still our Canadians.
In the UK smokers pay 拢10bn in taxes. We more than pay for "free" treatment.
Afcorse not. If they did every 1 would become a smoker so that they can go for free healthcare.
I believe that Smokers should pay more taxes, in terms of their healthcare
So - you are sitting on your comfy chair on your computer and something makes you laugh so wildly that you fall off and hit the deck and break your wrist - now by your reckoning you shouldn't receive any healthcare coz it was self inflicted - you chose to read it and laugh yourself of your chair - get the point
lol i live in canada fore smokers its free and for non-smokers lol! we get health care for free. But the U.S should make health care free . i hope...
Smokers definately need mental health care.they need a check-up from the neck up!
Add a tax to their cigarettes that justs goes to smokers healthcare...this way they foot the bill!
If you`re willing to pay to for the f@gs to kill yourself, you should pay for the healthcare of the illnesses caused by smoking.
Here in the UK, smokers pay over 拢10 billion in tax, the cost of treating smoking related diseases costs 拢1.5 billion. Smokers more than pay for themselves!
I can see where you're coming from but there are other cases as well. There is obesity, should obese people have to pay for treatment for conditions caused by over eating. What about people who have accidents that could have been avoided. Injuries caused by playing sport are inevitable but they would not have happened if that person had not been participating. We should be worrying here in the UK though - the NHS is in that much debt, give it a few more years and I think Heathcare will be on an insurance basis similar to the US as it can't keep on going on the way it is.
its the tax from cigarettes that run the health sevice you seriously don,t think on the miserable little bit of taxes you contribute are making it work.
Well the problem with that would be where do you draw the line? Obese people are just as bad as smokers: if not worse. They make up most of the type 2 diabetics, they have more heart problems, strokes. In general they have alot more health issues than normal weight people.
Self inflicted injuries? How exactly would you define that? Because a lot of illnesses, injuries and medical conditions come from people's lifestyles. What about a woman who decides to have a baby - should she have to pay for her healthcare? Or a carpet layer who develops arthritis in their knees?
Smokers allready pay for their healthcare.I pay my national insurance contributions towards the health service.I also pay again through the duty on the cigarettes. So their is no Free healthcare for me.Why pick on smokers?Have a go at the druggies and drunks, they are a burden just the same.
Ok, how about this. You are driving to work and you, changing the CD, get in an accident. Break several bones, have some minor internal bleeding and need surgery. Your bill costs $183,623.
Now, it was your fault. You failed to "pay full time and attention."
So why should Canada pay for your bill?Smokers pay BILLIONS in taxes.
I get your point but where do you draw the line? People will say "I didn't mean to do it" and then what? It's a stupidity call. If you're stupid, do you deserve health care? Unfortunately in Canada, yes. My husband is a canadian and he moved to the US for that among many other reasons. Time to pack up buddy!!
Ok so if someone eats unhealthy food they souldn't be covered either because he/she knew what junk food will do to him/herself. There are things that just about everyone does that they shouldn't.
I am a smoker and no way, We should get free health Insurance
I live in the USA where healthcare costs are horrendous. I would gladly pay a little more tax for healthcare (even if it's for smokers) than having to pay $3,000 USD for a scan to see if I had appendicidis (which turned out negative). The US system totally pisses me off. You guys got it good up there in regards to healthcare. Please don't complain.
The individual should have to pay. Everyone knows how dangerous it is to smoke...

Should she get assistance at home?

My friend has 4 children and her two youngest ones are boys and both Autistic, the eldest one is severly autistic and the younger one is not as bad as the older one. Her other two are at school one in Intermediate and one in primary. She has applied for assistance at home to help her with her two autistic children but they said she doesnt need it, i think she does, i help out when ever i have the time to, what can i do to get help for her?? her husbund works to support the family.
Answer:
You are wonderful to help your friend. Surely she and her family have alot of challenges with two autistic children. Check with some organizations and support groups for autistic children. Maybe other parents can tell you and your friend how they received help. I am not sure she will get a live-in person such as a nanny or caretaker though. What sort of assistance does she need? Some states offer speech therapy and other services in the home through state programs. Make some calls to children's hospitals or children's wards of local hospitals. Call the local school district, even if the children are not yet of school age. They may know what's available for that type of autism. My mother provides respite care for autistic children (and children and teens with other diagnoses). She has them on the weekends - Friday evening or Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. This gives the families time to spend with their other children, or the husband and wife can spend time together. This program is administered through the state. It is in southeastern Pennsylvania. If you just happen to be in that area, contact me and I will give you contact information for that program. Care providers are carefully screened and trained in medication administration, first aid, CPR, AIDS prevention, and other skills. They must take continueing credit classes each year. The care occurs at the caregiver's home. Everyone living in the home is screened by the agency. Recently, my mother picked up a child at the child's home. The mother got out of bed and came downstairs after recent surgery to thank my mother for taking her child for respite. Check if there is a similar program available in your area.

Should People do Courtesy flushes?

It's always uncomfortable when you have to go #2, and the courtesy flush has become something of a must. But You Should KNOW that it's is better to make people pinch their noses as embarrassing it may be than TO GET feces and bacteria shot up your very unprotected behind. You can really catch potential diseases and bacteria. Don't courtesy flush there are studies showing how the water spurts up when the toilet is flushed : )
Answer:
Not sure you should be that worried about the bacteria - they've just come right out of your behind in the first place and it's highly unlikely they will be 'shot up' your behind. The studies you refer to are highlighting the importance of putting the loo seat down before you flush to prevent potential aerosols containing pathogenic bacteria. It's also a big waste of water in an attempt to cover up something that everybody does.

Should i use this ice pack?

so i work at an office in a hotel, and my foot is swollen (long story, but i cant go home) so room service brought down 2 ice packs...one is an air tight sealed pack full of ice, the other is a "glacier ice gel refrigerant". she said "use that one, if you want, it's better..." bu the gel one is for packing to keep your food cold! and it says on the pack "DO NOT APPLY TO BODY" i found out its a pack for food online...but why would she give this to me if it says i shouldnt? should i try it, or just keep it for my lunches, and stick with the other ice pack? weird lady .
Answer:
The caution note is probably only is the pack is opened. I can't see something being safe for your food and not being safe for skin contact. But if you are unsure then go with your gut feeling and use the real pack of ice. Both of them should work the same.
(Psst! She doesn't like you. But, hey! Better ice pack than ice pick. N' est ce pas?
Do not use it, especially if it says not to. It could contain harmful chemicals that can be absorbed through your pores into your blood stream.
The weird lady thinks you are smart enough to apply to body with a towel between you and it. But not so, hu? Good thing you have ByeDr.com to fall back on! No one weird here!
No. It may contain something that could be absorbed and harmful. Use the regular ice.
If it's non toxic and you'd put it next to your food then I think it should be fine. Injured at work and they won't let you leave? I smell lawsuit.
You actually should never put anything cold directly on the skin--always through a layer of something like a towel. You also should only keep ice on about 15-20 minutes then off about 30 or so--and if it is causing pain, take the ice off. The object is to stop swelling %26 bleeding--not freeze the tissue. Sounds like the food gel pack probably gets too cold--that's why it says not for body use; but you could use it if you followed the above quidelines. (best by the way--frozen bag of peas). I doubt it contains toxic chemicals--you pack your food in it! Some people are not always the smartest cookie in the jar--at least she brought you something!
is it possibly the istant ice pack. but if it says dont apply to body then dont. use the other ice. 20 mins on 20 mins off. can you apply pressure to the foot if not it could be broken i would say go to teh ER,

Should i use crutches...no swelling?

okay so when I walk my knee hurts, near the bottom like were a tendions are...i have crutches from a previous injury should i use them...please dont tell me too see a doctor i need home remadies please
Answer:
Apply ice for the first few days...then alternate ice with heat. Buy some anti inflammatories...advil, motrin..and take continuously...even if it's not hurting...take for at least 3 days. Elevate the knee while resting.put a pillow under your knees when sleeping. This should help but it won't help overnight...probably will take several days. The crutches may help with pressure for a few days. Good Luck!
Well at first you should put ice on it then put some heat on it do that for about 3 days then after that if it still hurts use crutches.
Since you're looking for non-medica/home remedies, you must be aware that you won't get the most expert advice in the world...If there is no swelling, and the knee just hurts, chances are you did one of the many things people can do to knees that make them hurt. What I've done whenever I've had a knee that hurts is to walk on it, but figure out which way to walk on it that makes it hurts the least. In other words, favor it.On the one hand, you don't want to keep "re-doing" the injury by using the knee "wildly". On the other, it isn't always a good idea to stop using joints altogether. I would think it would make the most sense to continue to use the knee "gently".Crutches are used when they offer support to someone who needs that and when weight shouldn't be put on all or part of the leg. (I once had a fractured knee and was told to get ahead and walk with the straight cast, which immobilized the knee, on.)Whenever I've had a muscle or joint injury I've always relied on two aspirins to reduce inflammation and pain. Soaking the injury in warm water often helps. Some muscle injuries can last for quite a while, and you may not want to decide to use crutches for as long as it could take for it to heal completely. You'd be better off walking on it but keeping in mind to be careful about how you move it. You may want to use your thigh muscles to "lift" yourself upstairs, rather than putting all the weight on your knee. (Sit in a chair and practice using your thigh muscles to lift your leg. Practice using your bottom to push yourself off the chair, and then let the thigh muscles take over when it comes to getting the rest of the way to a standing position.)You may also want to go downstairs with one foot on one stair, then the other foot on the same stair, and then go to the next stair the same way. Its slow, but its less strain on the knees. You may find that going down the stairs slightly sideways is also a way to keep weight off your knee. You may find that some of the heat-wraps at the drug store will make the knee feel better.Crutches won't take pain away from your knee. They'll only keep weight off it, and if weight on it has nothing to do with the type of injury you haven't there is really no point in using crutches.
use RICE:
Rest
Ice
Compresion
ElevationIf you can walk without it being to painfull dont use the crutches. But if you can barely put pressure on it, use the crutches.
First elevate your leg and ice it for at least 15 - 30 minutes. If you think you may need to immobilize your knee wrap it up. If you can walk without pain you don't need crutches if you knee really hurts use your crutches for a couple days and see if your knee feels better.

Should I Try Out For The Upcoming Cheer Season Even Though I Have Knee Pain?

I've been having a lot of knee pain lately because of cheerleading. I really enjoy doing it, but i don't know if I should continue doing it because the pain doesn't seem to be going away. I went to a doctor and even go to physical therapy. Nothing seems to be helping. Should i try out for the upcoming season or try a different sport?
Answer:
I dont think you should. If your asking this question and you cant even answer it, then I wouldnt. How about asking ur doctor or physical therapist? Even if you just call them..
i wouldnt if i were you...you're just going to make it worse...
I would ask your doctor, and see what he/she says. If it's really bad, then you probably shouldn't, or your doctor might just recommend you get a knee brace.

Answer:
I would not give up on something that you seem to love so much!! Have you tried seeing a podiatrist to see if you have a foot alignment problem that may be causing you to have knee pain. The body is referred to as the kinetic chain, and you should have the joint above (hips/core) and joint below (ankles/feet) to see if you problem is originating there. When you went to physical therapy did they evaluate your hips/core and ankles and feet?
Often times the only thing that helps knee pain is absolute rest, this is true with patellar tendinitis that I have delt with in my athletes. Have you tried taking 2-3 weeks completely off of cheerleading?
It is really hard to help you without knowing where your knee pain is, its quality, etc. I would again not give up, I would start with a podiatrist or foot doctor and get their recommendation.
I hope this helps.

Should i trust my doc ? tired of this.?

hi all
well im tired of all this thing that bothering me for long time..i just came back from doc visit (family doc and another 90$ of my copay huh!) and i didnt hear anything new.
alergie, sinus infection... thats what i hear all the time...
Im having duul headache in the lower part of my head (in back between neck and brain) for 10 days now and he is saying that cause is sinus congestion.
Maybe(hopefully) this is true but i dont have any headache in the front or around the sinuses...
Is it normal to have slight headache (that come and go) for 10 days in the back of head because of sinuses?
Shoul i consult neurologist ar diferent doc%26gt;
Im curently taking sudafed and nasal drops so i will se how it goes.
Answer:
if you have a sinus infection, you need antibiotics like amoxicillan. It's an infection.
Always good to get a second opinion.
Sinus headaches usually occur in the front of the head around the eyes. What you are describing sounds like a tension head ache, but that is based on the limited information you are giving. You might want to get a second opinion from another practitioner. It's your right to do so any time you don't agree with your primary care provider.
absolutely especially at this time of the year. AND I have noticed just this year and I have turned 43 ouch. But for the first time in my life I am fighting sinus headaches too. They come and go and until we get past this spring pollen season we are going to have to bear with it. try something oner the counter first before you go back next time that doesnt cause drouseness. Hope you feel better
go see an iridoligist alternative health care they can help you.

Should I tell my parents I smoke?

I'm 16, and I rarely smoke. About 1 cigarette per week, maximum. When I do, they are Ultra Lights...never anything else. I know my parents would be angry and disappointed if they knew. Dont tell me they already know because they smell it on me. They dont. I only smoke outside when they are sleeping or out of the house. Then I come in and shower, brush my teeth, and wash my clothes. My cigs are well hidden too...I know they haven't seen them. I'm not addicted, and dont want to be...I'm not quitting either, because I don't want too...I'm not a heavy smoker, so I know although it's bad, it's not as bad as it could be. My question is, should I tell them, or just keep it as it is? If so, how should I tell them? Thank you so much for you input, I appreciate it. Please don't give me any "you should quit responses."
Answer:
I was in the same situation. I started smoking when I was 14. (I'm 18 now). I used to smoke about a pack or two a week. I did everything I could to try and hide it, but eventually, my parents found out. You can take so many precautions to hide the smell, but you will, at one point in time, be exposed.I'm not going to tell you to quit, since I feel if you want to smoke, go ahead. What I will tell you is this...you should tell your parents. In the middle of a conversation one day, just causually bring up smoking. Let them know that you are aware of all the health risks, and it is your choice to smoke. They should respect your decision. Plus, they should also be smart enough to understand that if they say no, you are going to continue doing it anyway. It may seem like a no-win situation, but if they catch you, you WILL be in huge trouble.Good luck!
ya i think u should tell them before they catch u smoking. they might get even more mad if they catch you.
Tell them. They may get annoyed, but they'll appreciate your honesty, for sure.
if you only smoke alittle---give it up now. i smoked for 30 yrs. yes, i was hooked. what a nasty, expensive dirty habit-addiction. you dont need it. i am 80 days into my quit. i am so proud of me. no, dont tell your parents, but stop. what are you getting out of it? you got to shower, clean close, brush your teeth..i dont get it. . i cant think of any reason NOT to tell you to quit. you are a stonger soul for quitting.
Instead of being angry at you if you tell them, they will be relieved. They will be happy you told them about this, because, I'm sure parents often feel like they don't know anything about their teenagers. Of course they will want you to stop %26 be worried but they will understand, because you told them. It's also a LOT better then if they catch you because then they will be super angry. But i do advise you to quit cold turkey because even though you only smoke once a week now, it might get worse and smoking is HORRIBLE! 1. i think it is discusting and will not date a guy that smokes but also 2. the chances of you getting lung disease or cancer is increseased incredibly! And 3. its not attractive
well, you already know the reasons why not too. and you already know that if your parents found out how dissapointed they would be,, but only you can decide whether to let them know or not. or if you can handle the way theywill make you feel when you do tell them. and if your already decided not to stop. then you may as well be addicted cause you already are experiencing the affects of tobbaco by not wanting to quit.
I wish I would of quit when I was at that same stage in my life. I was about your age when I started and it was only one smoke, but then it led to more and thenmore, and I thought that I was not addicted also, but by the time I wanted to quit, I was addicted and that was over 30 years ago, and Istill smoke, and it stinks, your breath smells bad, your teeth go bad, and your skin turns yellow, besides the fact that you run out of breath when running, or anything too strenuous.
but its totally up to you.. your choice. it is always only your choice.
you have choices all through your life. but when you make those choices remember to think of the consequences of the choices that you have, they will either be good for you, or bad for you.
no inbetweens.. you do. or you don't.. nothing is half and half.
remember that in all your decisions. make them wise and good for you, not bad for you..
and you will be happier inlife.
again, this is your choice, not anyone elses. we can only give you advice, but what you do with that advice is your choice still. hope you do the right one for you.
Tell them, The reason is even if yo usmoke only 1 a week you can get cancer and they will contact your parents, so just to be sure tell them.To tell them just bring it up during dinner? Or if there is a relitive that is younger that you don't want them to know about it set time aside from your life and bring your parent(s) and tell them.
Im a bad one to give you advise here.my dad is on oxygen (CODP), I just buried my 76 y/o grandfather (metastatic lung cancer), I have asthma (second hand smoke) and I just left a patients house (in homecare) with laryngeal cancer-a new tracheostomy and a bed to chair existance (only 50y/o). Oh...did I mention a patient I had in the hospital as a new graduate-44y/o who only smoked a few cigarettes in her teens (peer acceptance mostly)-she was on a heart lung transplant list.she is dead now...
i wouldnt. shoot. but its the right thing to do
if you never tell them, you will always be able to use that as an excuse to not smoke forever, even if you hide it for 10-15 years. smoking and have a great time untill the oneday you realize that your ready to not do it again. sure its fun and your parents probably did it once too. just remember how to quit and what it feals like to not smoke

Should I take Paxil with Tramadol?

I currently take paxil for anxiety, but also my pain specialist prescribed me Tramadol for my back pain, but I've heard this can be a dangerous combination? Does anyone know if these can be taken together- I'm fixing the anxiety, but am now back in pain.
Answer:
You shouldn't take opiates with SSRI medications because of a condition called Seratonin Syndrome, which can be fatal. Does your pain specialist know you are on the Paxil? Tramadol MAY be okay, because it is not technically an opiate, but binds to some of the same receptors. If your pain doc knows you are on the Paxil and prescribed the Tramadol anyway, then it is probably okay, but you can call his office and ask if you are worried. If not, then for sure call and tell him. Here is the Wikipedia on Seratonin Syndrome, in the meantime: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/seratonin_s...
Ask you doctor or pharmist!
It's not reccommended to take Paxil with Tramadol. There is a risk for a dangerous side effect called seritonin syndrome. I would discuss this with the pain specialist and suggest another drug would be a safer alternative. %26lt;snip%26gt;
Serotonergic Drugs: Based on the mechanism of action of paroxetine hydrochloride and the potential for serotonin syndrome, caution is advised when PAXIL is coadministered with other drugs or agents that may affect the serotonergic neurotransmitter systems, such as triptans, linezolid (an antibiotic which is a reversible non-selective MAOI), lithium, tramadol, or St. John's Wort.

Should I take pain medication?

I have 2 herniated disc along with a degenerative disc in my lower back. L5 and L6 to be exact. All of which is causing Sciatica. I have tried everything. Physical therapy, nerve block/injections, acupunture and chro just to name a few.I am a severe asthmatic and thus suffer from a wide range of allergies, one of which is NSAID's e.g Motrin, Advil etc. Being allergic to antiinflammatory meds is a big problem when it comes to controlling pain since I can't take them and that is the primary treatment for my problem. I am only 41 years old, I refuse any type of invasive treatment, so that leaves me with 2 options #1 spend the rest of my life in severe pain eventually becoming less and less functional #2 which is highly recommended by my pain managementt team and my orthopedist, and that is to take narcotic pain meds for an extended amount of time. Heres the problem I am TERRIFIED of becoming addicted . We all hear the horror stories. I would be monitered closely. What should I do?
Answer:
Oh Boy! Do I ever understand your problem!
I have functional disabilities of the spine all the way down due to degenerative osteoarthritis. I, too, have worried about addiction and refuse to take anything that will cause it over a long period of ingestion.
I have an Osteopath and a Chiropractor, both, plus I am one of a group of persons who is a total believer in Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). I just don't like having the options out of control.I took only herbals until it got to the point where they could not handle the pain problem. Then I was diagnosed, like I already didn't know it, disabled, last year. My problems had gone on for years.I finally faced the fact that I would need pain medication and I spoke to the Osteopath and he prescribed the lowest dosage of a medication and a muscle relaxant. I take it as needed because the pain varies from mild to intense. I've been on it for six months now and am not having problems with it. And I'm happy to say, no signs of addiction either. It is an opioid and I am monitored. I did not want to take Vicodin or anything like it.It may be that your pain is more intense and you couldn't take something like this, but at least, discuss it with your pain management team. And, don't be afraid. It's something you have to do to remain as functional as you can, for a long as you can. Also, I take tumeric as an anit-inflammatory. Ask about whether or not you could take it with your asthma. This is an alternative and make sure it is thoroughly researched by your pain management team before they give you an answer.Good Luck!
Take the medication. Since you will be closely monitored, you can let your doctor know right away if you feel like you are growing dependent on the drug.
Try not to worry about becoming addicted. You need the meds. Take 'em.
If you would be closely monitored, I'd go for it. One option would be to take the meds only when the pain gets really bad, rather than staying in a state of low-level infusion.I'm so sorry to hear about this. I can understand your fear of invasive procedures, but hope you've done sufficient research to learn about the potential successes as well as the potential drawbacks.God bless.
You already have a doctor or else you wouldn't have the knowledge of your condition in such detail. Ask a qualified medical practitioner. Don't leave your health in the hands of a bunch of Yahoo's(pun intended).
i would suggest taking them as if you will be monitored you can let your dr know if thik ur having a problem or are becommign addicted to them and most dr will know i ur addictged or not.
I was reading up on this because I have started taking opioid painkillers for a chronic problem. It turns out that hardly anyone taking narcotics for pain ends up addicted. Some people develop a physical dependence, which just means that you need to gradually cut back the dosage instead of stopping all at once. (Addiction is when you get high and keep wanting to take more and more of the drug.)Most people feel more normal and are able to function better when their pain is controlled. They don't get high.Doctors are very, very afraid of the gov't taking their licenses away if they prescribe too many painkillers, so when you have your doctors urging you to do this, you know they are convinced the benefits far outweigh the risks.I'd say take the pain meds.
take the meds...Your Doctor will give you enough for your pain and if you take more than you should, that's when you become addicted...I have been taking Pain Meds for years...I almost have the same thing as you.
I have degenerative Arthritis, without the pain meds, I know I wouldn't want to be here, because I just couldn't take the pain...
Take the Pills, just don't abuse them and you will be fine..good luck

Should i take off my bandage when im taking a shower?

...i dont want to get my scrapes wet so should i leave it or take it off the bandage...plus how come my bandage alway wet in random times ??
Answer:
yes, you should take your bandage off when you shower because they will become wet and soggy. OR you can wrap plastic wrap (Saran wrap) around it to protect it - but make sure to remove the plastic wrap when you are done showering
Leave it on, in the shower, and replace it with a new bandage, when you are out and dry.
leave it on, then replace it. if the cut healed that u should be fine.

Should I take my son to the er, how can u tell if it is serious or not?

My 6 yr old slammed his finger (thumb) in the car door. The back of the thumb is bruised already and its only been 20 min. His thumb nail is also pretty bruised. It is swollen but he can move it. Is it okay! or should I just call the dr and see what she says...
Answer:
If he can bend his finger without pain and no popping or cracking can be heard, if there is no severe bleeding, if he can recall what happened and doesn't seem confused or different than normal, then no it wouldn't be necessary to take him to the ER. Just put some ice on it. It will have some swelling, but as long as there's no protruding bones, lots of blood, or anything that appears very strange then not to worry.
This article provides information on your issue. If you have any doubts, you should seek professional medical advice.http://www.pennhealth.com/ency/article/0...
If there is blood trapped under the fingernail, the pressure may bild up and cause increased pain. I would just ice the area and keep an eye on it. If your child continues to have problems then I would call his doctor
Take him.
I can't believe your still sitting at a computer.
When I was 18, I got 2 fingers closed in a car door. Neither finger was broken, but I did lose both nails (they grew back fine).
Keep an eye on him. Keep it elevated and ice it---20 minutes on then 30 minutes off (so you don't burn the skin). Give him whatever you usually give him for pain/fevers if he complains of pain. If it starts getting worse, then you should take him to the ER.
probley not much they can do..it happened to me when i was about 6 or 7...very sore and the nail came off eventually but it grew back..if you are not sure take him to er but i think it will be ok..ice on it and motrin or something for pain ..good luck
I did the same thing when I was 8, I was taken to the family doctor where he popped the nail off to relieve the pressure (grossing me out fully as blood spurted out all over the room) but the pain was gone, in a few days the nail started to return and I was find. If you can go to your doctor it might be quicker or one of the one stop centers, most emergency rooms are so busy that he might wait in the er while more serious cases are treated.
After icing the injury today, take him to the doctor' or for an x-ray tomorrow if the pain gets worse or persists. You can give him one Tylenol for the pain.

Should i take my dog to the vet?

my dog a daschund jump of my bed which is 3 ft off the ground and landed on tiled floor. COSIDERING THE YOUNG AGE OF YOUR DOG, YOU SHOULD HAVE THE AREA EXAMINED!
HE COULD GET A FRACTURE FROM A JUMP LIKE YOU DESCRIBED!
FOR HIS SAKE, HAVE HIM CHECKED OUT!
IT MAY REQUIRE CARE TO CORRECT THE INJURY!
Yes, yes yes,,,,please take him to the vet. That happened to my dog once and she had a lot of pain...take him ASAP.bye
Yes ! For sure take him to the vet.

Should i take my cast off?

Ok i broke my hand 2 1/2 weeks ago puching a wall and it came out a fracrued 5th metacarpal. my baseball team is doing really good right now and would be doing a lot better if they had me. If i wait untill the cast is schedueled to come off...the season is over and this is a once in a lifetime thing... so i have been debating whe to take it off or if i should the hand feels pretty good and is schedueled to come over in 2 weeks should i cut it off now or not?
Answer:
You should keep your cast on. I had a co-worker who had anxiety issues with casts, took hers off too early, and her arm never healed. She broke the same arm 3 times in one year. It needs to heal 100% or else you could break it again by doing something really simple.
what does your orthopedist say when asked?
your hand is more important than a baseball game.
wake up to yourself are you dull or something IT IS ON THERE FOR A GOOD REASON grow up if you take it off it wont heal properly and you will have major problems with pain and arthritis in the future. IF you take it off now you probably wont be able to play baseball for the rest of your life THINK CLEARLY
do not do that! if you arent totally healed then you would face a lifetime of trouble. Its a small price to pay to miss a season rather then to have arthritis and a deformed hand for the rest of your life..
of course not! Do you want to permanently damage your hand?Baseball lasts for a short time Life is longer. a damaged hand for the rest of your life is what you are risking by taking off the cast now.
NO. do not take your cast off if you want to risk the chance of never being able to play baseball again. Be sure to listen to the doctor
Only if this season is more important than the rest of your life. The cast is there to protect while the hand heals completely. After that the hand will need some strengthening and exercize before doing major work like playing ball. Taking the cast off prematurely could risk further injurt and limit your use of your hand later on as well as creaqting situations that can cause a lot of pain. All that said there is no reason not to ask the doctor to recheck and see if healing has progressed to the poing that you can safely have it removed. Please also consider getting some assistance with better ways to manage anger. You did well to hit the wall not a person or animal but you are worth a lot too and shouldn't get damaged by your anger.
I don't think it would be a good idea to cut it off. You think it feels good now but you are not moving and using your hand and wrist or even bearning weight like normal. You need time for your bones to heal and it normally takes 6 weeks for that to happen. It also sounds like you have an anger problem that should be looked at, guys who punch walls end up in bad positions, go talk to someone (counsler). You should take this as a hard lesson learned. There will be other games and bigger teams to play in the future, I put off knee surgery because I thought like you and wanted to get out there and play but only injured my knee got worse.
You need to wait to have it removed. Time to heal is very important.
trust me NO leave it on untill it saposed to come off. You could cause more damage if its not healed all the way and you will be stuck in a cast even longer than you really need to.
no you should not take the cast off yourself. 1st you dot know if its really to come off and you could damage your arm more trying to take it off. taking a cast off needs to be done by a doctor
No, keep it on. You won't be of help to your team if you play because that bone which has started to heal will refracture for sure at 2 1/2 weeks.. You see, even an operated metacarpal has to be immobilized for about 6 weeks before removal of the pin.

Should I take more pills to compensate for the days I missed?

I recently got sinusitus, and my doctor gave me a 10 day supply of Amoxicillin and told me to take them all, I understand the importance of finishing all the medication, but I recently missed two takings, which leaves me with an extra day of pills. I was wondering what should I do? Should I stay within the time frame and take an extra pill a day? or is the extra day ok?Thanks. :)
Answer:
If you missed only one dose, you are definately okay
If you missed ONE whold day, you are probably still okay
Start taking the next dosage and continue until they are gone. Anti-biotics work by accumulation sort-of...It is important to take all the pills..Oh and btw if you are on oral contraceptives, be extra careful while you are on the anti-biotics.and don't drink any alcohol..and eat yogurt to prevent diarrhea.
Hope this helps!!
never take more then you are suppose to
Just continue to take the prescribed amount. No need to "catch up"
Do not take extra pills, just finish them out like you normally would leaving you with an extra day to finish it.Extra pills within a day's time frame can be dangerous, even if it is just an antibiotic.
just keep taking them per the instructions take them the extra day.
I shouldn't take more pills than you are supposed to each day. Carry on as usual and maybe ask your doctor to check if there will be a problem that you missed some out.

Should i swallow these capsules whole, or chew them?

i have some Pure cod liver oil capsules, should i chew or swallow whole? it doesnt say on the box!
Answer:
it will taste pretty yucky if you chew it.it's just a supplement, not a medicine, doesn't matter how it goes down
swallow whole if you don't want to puke. Cod oil doesn't matter. It usually matters if the pill is a time released medicine.
I think unless it specifically says "Chewable" on the bottle then you should sallow them.
Swallow them whole
swallow whole. cod liver oil tastes pretty bad. as in it will make you gag.
it won't hurt you at all if you chew them; it'll only taste foul.
swallow whole

Should I sue Walmart?

Yesterday when I was shopping at Walmart , I was getting a wood tray with glass candle holders that was on the top of another set. I didn't noticed but the set that was under the one I was getting wasn't close properly, the plastic cover was open, therefore that opened plastic got stock with the tray I was getting and the candle holder went into the floor and it broke, splashing glass everywhere causing me a big cut in my ankle. I was bledding a lot. I'm still in pain and can't walk.
Answer:
you can try. i think u could win the case if a lawyer will take it
i would try , ask a lawyer first if they would take the case
No you will be wasting your money. Go to the store and they will likely pay for your medical bill.
As long as you can prove it cause I broke my ankle almost 2yrs ago there %26 they are fighting me tooth and nail which isn't right.Good Luck
You should sue if you feel that Walmart caused your pain and injury.
you could try ,but they could come back with you did it deliberately and who did you have with you to prove otherwise
you can try u probably wont get anything. walmart is a big company and they have the best of the best lawyers. good luck.
Sue those corporate bastards!
Walmart is one of the biggest department stores around. I would contact manager and see what they will do for you.I don't think I would sue but they may give you a pay out.Talk to a lawyer for free and see what he has to say.I know a woman here in Canada that sued McDonalds because she spilled a hot coffee on her lap.I guess it wouldn't hurt to talk to lawyer he may be able to get a pay out for you.It depends how bad the accident is.Also get pictures right away if you are thinking about a law suit. Good Luck
i agree that you should not.
you should go and have them simply pay for your medical bill.
if you try and sue it will get into a big drawn out thing and end up as a waste of money.
no u shudnt...thats something that customer cud have done and walmart didnt have any control of it. if its not an injury that is goin to affect your life permanently then dont what would be the point. if u went to the hosp they will gladly pay ur medical bills im sure
You can, and I think you would have a good case. But Wal-mart have enought money and lawyers to drag the case out forever, even if you won, Wal-mart would keep appealing it and they have the money to do it. They would wait you out, because they know that you don't have that kind of money to keep obtaining a lawyer for such a long time. They may settle with you and give you something, but it won't be like the amount you would get if you won in court.
I'm not sure about this one b/c It wasn't really their negligence.
well, in a way it was but they wont think so.
Good luck with them anyway. when my niece was 7 she punched a punching bag that was hanging from the ceiling, when she hit it a large chain came down and slashed her arm. she got about 40 stitches, inside and outside. that was 10 years ago and walmart has yet to reimburse the Dr bills. The manager ran over there and was telling them she shouldnt have punched it and was trying to get my sister to sign papers while her daughter is screaming and bleeding!!I suggest calling a lawyer and see what they say.
You could try, but the fact is, it was an accident. I am pretty sure they would pay your medical bills, but not "pain and suffering" or anything.
It was your negligence which caused the accident. If you had done something similar at home who would you sue?
If you try to sue wally word you would have to show gross negligence on their part in the manner with which they stacked the products.
Yes. . take pictures of it while it is in its early stages. talk to a lawyer get a doctors note etc. I think if u make it public they will pay 4 it but they are afraid of loss of bussiness. if they R scared enough they will pay. talk 2 a lawyer ttho
I wouldn't advise you sue them, simply call and advise them the situation, and see if they will reimburse your medical fees.Next time be more careful.

Should I stay up?

Ok so I have to be up at like 5am to get ready for work tomorrow. Should I go watch that new 28 weeks later tonight? it'll finish at like twenty to midnight or later?
Answer:
What time do you normally go to bed - only you know how tired you will be - it may make for a very loong day tomorrow!
It depends. If you can normally go to bed and get to sleep before that time, go to bed. If you normally don't fall asleep till the wee morning (like me) sometimes it doesn't help at all to go to bed.Good luck.
Gees, only you can decide that. How tired do you want to be at work tomorrow?

Should I sleep tonight, its 5am, gotta be at work in 3 hours?

THey say some is better than none...but geez, I'll only get 2 1/2 hours sleep tops...is it worth it?
Answer:
if i find my self in this situation i just stay up and then sleep after work. You will be more tired sleeping for that time and then working. Just stick it out with a large energy drink and mabe some 'Energy Now' pills. Then crash long and hard when 8 to 10 is permitted...
Not really, just stay awake and answer questions. Seasame street is on!
I honestly wouldn't bother. You are going to feel wired if you don't sleep. But you'd feel wrecked if you did.
Nah..when u wake up, you will be exhausted and really lazy. Drink some coffee!
hell yea go to sleep maybe you wont wake up and lose ur job
The question should be...should i call in sick. Yes you should. Don't go to work with so little sleep or no sleep. Productivity will be low and you take the chance of being killed driving to work or even fired.
i'm sitting here with the same problem...ive decided to stay up...2 hours wont make or break you...actually its a proven fact that if some people try to go to sleep for 2 hours or shorter, they feel worse than just going about their day...my boyfriend works the midnight shift and he has a hard time getting to sleep during the day so if he doesnt get to sleep by at least 8pm i make him stay up. he always ends up making up for lost sleep the next day
stay awake. but rest your eyes occasionally if need be. it'll be hard to keep your eyes awake the rest of the 'night' and during your work day.
I think some sleep is always better than none."Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleeve (sleave) of care."
Shakespeare. You need to knit up the unravelled sleeve which is th mind after a day. The chances are it'll still be slightly loose when you get to work, but loose is better than totally undone.Make sure you set a loud alarm!
Call in unless your asleep now because work sucks when your exhausted for real.
I think you would just be more tired if you slept now. Might as well just stay up. I think I remember from a class I took once that you are more rested when you can sleep through a complete REM cycle (usually about 3 hours? Now I wish I had taken better notes!!). Just make yourself some coffee and a good hearty breakfast and, even if you are really wiped out after work, try to stay up until as close to your normal bedtime as possible so your sleep schedule doesn't get all out of whack.
take a long shower, have a coffee.you may find with walking to work you will feel more refreshed.when you get home, try stay up until at least early evening,so you can get back into a good routine

Should i sleep 8 or more hours aday?

i want to know "exactly how many hours should i sleep a day"i am a college studentmy BMI is 26age is 18
Answer:
As someone else just pointed out, about 7 hours is the norm for most people. It does also depend on what you've been doing that day as well as to how much rest you should get and how much sleep you'd normally have. There are times when I've slept just a couple of hours and felt better than when I've been asleep for 8 or more hours, so it will more than likely vary from person to person. Why not try out different time-tables and see which works best for you? Perhaps just altering when you go to bed or get up could make a big difference in the level of rest you actually get.
The general rule of thumb is no less than 6hrs and no more than 8hrs a night. Works well for me.
It varies depending on your personal needs
8 hours is a working day-the doctors says you should sleep 7 or 6 hours is best buty sometimes sleeping more can bring on headaches and backaches.
Try yourself! See how much you need %26 don't ask the others. Sleep 2-4 days as much as you can and see how you feel. Everyday feeling better or tired? Then 4 another days in row put your alarm to wake you up in 8 hours and see again how you feel.
Usually they say 5-8 hours is fine. But some people sleep the afternoon too. You can sleep 6 hours the night and then 2 the morning it's the same. For example i'm a student too and i know i don't have time at all and the most of times i'm sleeping late the night. But to be truth i'm a big sleeper myself. I could leave myself sleeping 12 hours+ altough i feel tired then. I can't get up, i can't concentrate etc... But when i sleep less (6-7 hours) i wake up really fast *next day* and i'm full of energy and i can't explain that(!)!!
So it depends on the situation, the person, the DNA sometimes... It's better to try it and see.
everyone varies with how much they need. 8 to 9 hours is just a guide. If you still feel tired you may need 10 hours or you may be able to manage on 6 or 7

Should I see an orthopedic doctor for pain and stiffness in my neck and shoulders?

I also have bone spurs on both sides of my neck. I get migraine headaches over my right eye or I get bad tension type headaches , with these headaches the bone spurs get tight and hard.
Answer:
I would see your family doctor first and they can referrer you onto other doctors.
I'd try massage first.
You need to maintain a proper posture, like keeping head straight. Don't bend head/neck forward. Don't use thick pillow. If doing lot of table work, take care to maintain good posture. You may need to get xrays/ CT scan to rule out cervical spondylosis.
Your family Chiropractor might be a better first option. The orthopedist will only give you drugs (with dangerous side effects) which never treat the CAUSE of these kinds of conditions. Your family Chiropractor will work with you to identify and correct any underlying structural causes of your pain and suffering. Importantly, your Chiropractor will refer you to an orthopedist if that is what you really need. Sadly, the orthopedist will not refer you to a Chiropractor if that is what you need.Chiropractic FIRST, then drugs, then surgery.Best wishes and good luck.
You could, but a physiotherapist is also likely to be useful to you. The physio can provide some postural tips and exercises that can alleviate some or all of the painful responses you are experiencing. If there are particular indications that surgical intervention would be more useful, the physio will be able to identify these, and will also hel[p you prepare to get the best outcome from the surgery.
I would go see a physical therapist first. They are able to give massage and several other equipment-assisted forms of therapy that are designed to help with sore or injured muscles. An orthopedic doctor is concerned with tendons, bones, and joints, rather than the muscles themselves.
Even if this is completely stress related, a PT can give you therapy that helps control the pain and can teach basic stretches and exercises that will keep the symptoms from coming back.A PT will be able to tell if you need to see an orthopedic doctor, and he or she will likely be able to identify the best ones for your specific problems.Best of luck!
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
If spurs doesn't disappear with acupuncture go for surgery, it is actually a mechanical and hence surgical problem.Source(s):

Should i see a foot doctor?

on halloween of 2006 i hurt my foot. i was stepping down from the sidewalk and there was a rock where my foot landed. my foot bent almost or totally sideways. it hurt like hell. i was able to walk on it but with difficulty. the next morning when i tried to get out of bed i couldnt even walk. it hurt so bad when i tried to take a step that i had to crawl around the house to get my breakfast which was a simple bowl of ceral. so i sat around for the next few days till it felt better. now it hurts if i bend it certain ways. like if i point it straight sometimes that hurts. if i have it pointed to the back of me with my leg out that hurts sometimes. i can't sit with my legs under me and i haven't tried but awhile ago i couldnt use that foot to get myself up off the floor. like u know when u put your weight on one foot when your getting up. and i'm a dance teacher so i can't have foot problems. should i go get this checked out? i never went to see anyone we just assumed i sprained it.
Answer:
Definitely. See someone immediately. This could be a minor fracture. I am an avid hurdler and recently was told that my foot was most likely sprained. I ached with it for over 2 weeks until I went back to the clinic that diagnosed me. I had a different doctor the second time. He told me that he was 95% sure of a break after a foot X-ray. Don't know what your insurance status is, but you should get it checked out before the damage becomes permanent.
yes
Better late then never. Sounds like some kind of tendon problem.
Ummmm...yeah. You should've gone to see a doctor 6 months ago. There are dozens of tiny bones in your foot, sounds like you broke at least a couple of them. You're a dance teacher?? I would think you would be a little more concerned about your feet.

Should I see a doctor?

Ok, so on wed. morning i woke up w/ a stuffed up ear, i went to school and ended coming home early cause it hurt. Every night since then while i was asleep i slept on that ear hoping any fluids that might be causing it to be stuffed it up, might be drained. Every time i wake up there is dry blood around my ear like its been bleeding, but it doesnt hurt. My sister-in -law says i should go to a doctor my mom says not. Should I go to a doctor?
Answer:
Yes, you need to go to a doctor. Having a stuffed up ear as an adult can often point to sinus infection which antibiotics can easily clear up. However, since you are experiencing bleeding you need to go to a doctor as soon as you can. It may be a severe ear infection but it could be much more threatening to your hearing. The ears you have are the only ones you get, see a doctor and take care of them. I would suggest going to a local urgent care clinic or your family physician, they can refer you to a specialist should you need one.
Yes you might have popped your ear drum!
Go to the doctor
If it does not clear up soon, go to a doctor
UM HELL YES bleeding from your ear isnt good
I would go to a doctor asap, that is not normal.
umm yea. if you have to ask then you probably should.
blood out of ear. yes.. you should asee a doctor.
It could be anything from an ear ifection to a ruptured eardrum.
Yes, sounds like serious inner ear infection, and it requires antibiotics.
Also, use a decongestant, because THAT is what dries up the fluids in your inner ear canals, rather than sleeping on it.
Good luck!!
You have what we call an ear infection. These can be very serious if not taking care of. To the point of loosing hearing and you made have to have tubes put in. Please take care of this as soon as possible. (you have been warned)
Yes, you probably have an ear infection. What is your mom's problem?
you need to see a doctor you have a very very bad ear infection and your ear drum may have ruptured
yes, you should go to a doctor.
If it's not better soon, then you should. If you don't it might lead to something dangerous.
yes
to be on the safe side you should go to the doctor.
Under normal circumstances ears are not supposed to bleed. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/...Check out this link.
hey in case you didn't know: YOUR EAR IS BLEEDING. if your mom doesn't want to take you to the doctor(bad parent by the way), then go to the school nurse and she'll tell your mom to take you.
YES, go to a ENT, ears, nose and throat Physician. It could be a possible hole in your eardrum, due to access fluid build up. It pressure remains/fluid build up, then they may insert a tube to drain fluid and reduce pressure.
Have you been exposed to extreme noise, recent air travel, swimming in a waterhole (parasite of waterborne nature)
Get it checked out.
instead of writing to us get an appointment, take sickness, pain bleeding seriously.
Yes you SHOULD see a doctor and do not delay. I hope you haven't been poking in your ear with anything to make it bleed. Please go see a doctor. Something is going on and it needs to be checked. Don't mess with your hearing or vision. Hope you let us know what the doctor says. PLEASE do not put anything in your ear unless directed to do so by your doctor. Good luck!

Should I see a doctor if I faint?

This morning I had a dizzy/fainting spell, blacked out for a moment and fell on the floor (somebody caught me, don't worry). I hadn't eaten in the past 4 hours so I hope it was just because of low blood sugar. This kind of thing has happened before, about once or twice a year I guess. I've also had a dull headache all afternoon and just as I started typing this question I got sharp pains in my right temple. Should I see a doctor/is there any way to stop this from happening?
Answer:
You should see a doctor as soon as possible, as a nurse I can tell you that many things can cause fainting but you should absolutely have it checked out.
what do you want the doctor to do? he will tell you since it happens 1nc or twice a year he cant do anything. You want a cholesterol or diabetes test? then go in for that don't waste a doctor's time and say ever few months i feel sick.
you sound dehydrated and had low blood sugar, which explains the headache but if it makes you feel better talk to your doctor
i think u should! cos if its happened before then it could be serious. atleast to give yourself peace of mind u should. all the other symptoms could be as a result of stress.
You are probably dehydrated.Drink 8 glasses of water everyday and stay away from caffeine.Soda pop and coffee, chocolate. You can have 1 soda a day but drink more water.
Yes you should see the doctor but it is probably just not from eating or drinking.
Don't worry I once fainted during the school assembly it was very hot and I was dehydrated into a very nice experience but go see the doctor anyway I didn't have to because I knew what it was from.

Should I search for disability insurance, even though I am in good health?

Answer:
Yes, absolutely. A former co-worker got a blood infection that almost cost him his right arm, literally. He ended up having to have 5 inches of a bone removed in an effort to save his arm. Doctors think he got the infection from a paper cut. He missed months of work and didn't have disability insurance because he thought the $11/mo was too expensive. He ended up having to rely on the kindness of family, friends and strangers to keep a roof over his head and food on the table while he was unable to work. This is even more important if you have a family to support. If it isn't available through work, check with your auto/homeowners insurance agent.

Should I remove my thumbnail?

I smashed my thumb about two weeks ago. I can tell I'm going to lose the nail. I think if I were to pry on it, that it would come off. Should I leave it, and just let it happen? Or, should I help it out a little? Which is best for future growth?
Answer:
it'll come off on it's own. try not to play with it too much until then. i seriously don't understand why so many people on here advise a doctor or a trip to the er for every little cut and scrape. you definitely want to keep the site clean before and after the nail comes off.
Leave it alone - if you pry it off you will damage the nail bed ~ and have a sight for sore eyes ~ it will never heal properly ~ It should come off as the nail grows ~ you could trim ~ and I mean trim the nail as it grows out ~ to keep it from ripping or tearing ~
See a Dr. depends on how bad it is if it's barely hanging I would remove it but thats not an expert opinion.
Go see a doctor.Nail can grow again.
try and poke a hole in the middle, this will remove some of the liquids..well its what my doc told me,gl^^
Don't mess with it yourself. Any wound as large as your thumbnail poses a real risk for infection if not handled by a professional. See a doctor or nurse practitioner.
Future growth will shove it off, don't worry about it unless it is infected. It will fall off eventually. The problem with thinking it will come off with a little prying...is that it isn't as simple as that, it never is. Because SOMETHING is still attached and that will hurt like hell if you pull and pull and ...Eh, just let nature take it's course dude.As for future growth, it'll be fine. This happened to my pinky toenail and it was loose all the way down to the base and I thought about ripping it off but the new growth pushed the dead off. In the end I had so much new growth I only had to pull a little bit and the old came right off. So don't force it. Little effort should be used, if more is required don't do it, it's not ready ;)

Should I put my earring back in?

I got my ear pierced about a month ago. During a weekend, I was at work, and my boss told me to take out my earring. I did and the next morning it was infected. It was twice the size of my other ear. The lobe actually dropped and widened. I went to the doctor and he said I needed it to be drained. He said I could wear the earring again. He sent me to an ENT to get it drained, but he said it was just swollen, no puss. He gave me meds and said I could NEVER wear an earring again. I am very confused. I clean it MANY times daily. Today I checked to see if my hole is still open and it was. Can I wear my earring?
Answer:
You didnt say what quality the earring you have is...if it is a good earring. wait for the ear to heal and reinsert it. Clean the lobe frequently by using peroxide and alcohol, gently squeeze around the opening to see if pus appears. When/if you reinsert an earring, dip it in alcohol and touch only the gem part to insert. As another person stated, you can use a broom straw to keep the hole open or a piece of thread will do the trick also. Use alcohol to clean those too. Hot, red and swollen means infection. If you start to see those signs take the earring out, treat the area and reinsert when healed. Eventually the hole will heal on the inside and you'll be fine. --RN
you're a dude, you shouldn't be wearing an earing in the first place!
call your doctor and ask them
I would carefully see if you can work it in but if it hurts you may tear a hole in the skin causing permanent damage.
i think you should ask your doctor for what's best... you don't want it to get worse!
Good luck!
Toodles,
~babygirl~
did you hear what the eNT said," you could never wear an earing again" deal with it.
pierce something else if you want an earing so bad
If a doctor told you not to then I wouldnt. A little piece of jewerly isnt really worth health problems
You need to call the ENT doc to find out WHY you are not supposed to wear the earring again. You must have forgot to ask why when you were in his office. Do not put an earring back in until you check with the ENT doc to find out why you are not supposed to put an earring back in the hole.
I would check with the doctor just to be sure. I know he said you couldn't, but he could have made a mistake and said the wrong thing.
If it wasn't infected, according to the ENT, then why would you not be able to wear the earring ever again? This doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to the earring, because you had it in for a month. I would put the earring back in. If it swells up again, well, take it out and then don't wear earrings anymore, but I doubt that it will.
Im sure you will be able to wear it again, but the infection needs to be taken care of first. If you ever have an infected piercing, you shouldnt take out the earring, you should get the infection taken care of with the earring in your ear, because if it closes up, how will you heal the infection?
GOD NO!! i had my ears pierced over the summer, and then i took it out after about two months, and then when i put it back in, i poked another hole in my ear and it HURT SOOOOOOO BAD!!!! the worst part is i had no idea wat had happened so when i finally let my mom see it, it was all infected and nasty. now i have to wait for them to close up again before i get them peirced again. :( *cry*
Yes you can ,but for now if your ear is still in pain get some straw from a real broom and burn the ends of the straw, the sraw should be as big as a stud earring and you should be fine for work too .
It might not be the best idea. I remember a family friend telling me that she had an ear infection and the hole closed up AROUND the earring. Her mother had to wrestle her to the floor to remove it. But from the way the situation sounds I don't think there's a possibility of this happening. I don't want to sound repetitive but you definitely should talk to a professional before trying anything. But my personal advice would be: try it, if it worsens take it out. if it's fine, then i guess you'll be okay. You might have also bought a cheaply made earring.

Should i put lotion on a healing wound?

It's drying up and bunching and tightening the skin around it. If i open up my hands (ex. to do a high-five), it tears and bleeds. How do i keep it from drying up?Or is this just part of the healing process?
Answer:
keep neosporin on it and keep it bandaged. Wash it out 2 times a day with soapy water and redress the would. This should make the healing process a lot slower but a lot less painful. and when you do have a scar use mederme to clear it right up. Or you can always wash it out with saline solution. This gets rid of all the crusties and proceed with the dressing.KEEP IT CLEAN!
You need to use vaseline.
try using a liquid bandage on the actual open wound, and then use petroleum jelly overnight, if you can stand it, to seal in moisture. mosy lotions contain a lot of other stuff you may not want seeping through the cracks - could be painful.
Don't put lotion on it! If its still bleeding it not healed yet. How big is the cut by the way? "tearing and bleeding" is making it sound big.
I wouldn鈥檛 advise putting lotion in or around a cut like that. You could probably find some sort of antibiotic ointment to put on it. That would help keep it from drying up so much and cracking, and it would help prevent infection.
you should keep some thing like triple antibiotic on it with a bandage to fit over the sore till it heals you need to keep the skin soft and not allow it to dry out or it will continue to bleed and tear and it will keep it from getting infected so keep it covered with neosporion on it or triple antobitic and when it is healed you can tell you won't need those any more
use vasiline or maybe dettol.

Should i play basketball with a back injury?

Ok i have a basketball tournamount tomorrow and im trying to decide if i should play or not. I recently went to the hospital 2 days cause my spine and lower back was hurting way bad. But the doctor gave me some painkillers 550 mg so the pain has gone down a little bit now and the side effects do make me a little bit dizzy. The doctor strongly advised me from not lifting anything heavy but he didn't say anything about sports. So would i be stupid to play?
Answer:
No, the back injury may get worst and may stop your basketball activity for a long time. The painkiller will not resolve the problem, the injury is still there, only the pain sensation has been numbed by the painkiller. Remember, painkillers are only to relieve your sensation of pain, but the injury is as it is. any muscular activity will further damage the tissues which you will not feel due to the effect of the painkiller you have taken. But you'll surely feel more pain after the effect of the tablet has subsided. Subsequently, you will require stronger pain killer to relieve you of the pain.Painkillers are bad for stomach and have other side effects. So, why spoil your health, just skip over these basketball matches and wait till your Doctor gives go ahead.
no u w'd aggravate ur back injury.u need rest 4 2 weeks at least.

Should i leave my piercing in, or should i take it out, and if i leave it in, wat should i do to help it?

i got a second piercing in my ear, i took out the earing in 1 month, but it started to bleed. so for the next few weeks i took it out everyday to clean it, but i kept getting scabs in my ear lobe. i have left it in for 3 weeks now and randomly it started to hurt. it got all puffy and red, then my ear started to bleed. i really dont want to have to close it up and re-pierce my ear, but im not sure if i could get really sick from the infection.
Answer:
You shouldn't take the jewelry out while it's healing, and if it's red and irritated it's still healing, borderline infected. You don't need to take it out but you must be diligent with keeping it cleansed. Don't use any medicine that's 'goopy' on it like bacitracin. Use something like liquid bactine and water in a 50/50 solution 3x a day. Or a warm sea salt solution. But don't take the jewelry out to clean the hole. That will only irritate the piercing itself. This site shows 2 methods of keeping the piercing clean and making it heal properly. I prefer the sea salt soak.http://tattoo.about.com/cs/beginners/l/b...***I strongly recommend you never to go to a place like Claire's or a mall kiosk to get a piercing done. They are NOT professionals. They have NOT been through classes and apprenticeships to learn how to pierce. A pro piercer will be a little more money, but isn't it worth it knowing that the person doing it is a licensed professional rather then a kid who got a p/t job at minimum wage and has a piercing gun?
if it is a cartalage peircing u will grow a bump and have to take it out till it goes down a little then push it back in but its a regular peircing ur ears are probably infected.

Should I keep working my summer job even though I am experiencing wrist pain?

I am 18, female. I started working as a busser at a nice restaurant just over a week ago, and have gradually started feeling more and more pain in my left wrist from holding the serving trays. Now when I turn my wrist counter-clockwise I feel pain and can hear it click, and it hurts the most when I turn my wrist and then bend it back at a 90 degree angle, as if I was holding a tray. (And when I am at the restaurant, once I get all the dishes off my tray and set it down, it takes about five seconds to regain the mobility in my wrist.)Is this just something that everyone working in restaurants gets used to, or is it a bigger problem? I don't want to sustain any permanent damage for a minimum wage job.I was also thinking that I might be holding the tray improperly. Is there a better way to hold it?
Answer:
When you are at work try wearing an elastic Ace bandage or brace. This can help your wrist by supporting it so you don't twist it the wrong way. Take Motrin, Tylenol or Advil, these are NSAIDS or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories which will keep down the swelling. When you are at home, try not to use it too much, keep it down to a minimum. When typing try not to rest your wrists on the desk. Apply ice every 45 minutes to an hour, and when swollen, keep levatated at a 180 degree angle (that's flat!) If this doesn't help, and the pain doesn't subside in 48 to 72 hours, call of work and go to your doctor. Your symptoms can be anything to a sprain to carpal tunnel syndrome. Good luck, hope this helps.
Try wearing an elastic wrist brace (available in drug stores) for support.
maybe you should get an Xray.. you may have sprained it
you can exercise to strengthen your wrist.
may try a wrist brace
No i say quit
Sounds like you're on the road to carpal tunnel syndrome. It's a hazard in that kind of occupation, along with typists, grocery clerks, etc., where alot of demands are placed on your wrists. Lots of times leads to surgery. You may be able to relieve it with a splint obtained a local medical supplier, but for a minimum wage job, I don't think it's worth it.
you have carpal tunnel syndrome..and yes you shouldnt do that kind of work or you may end up needing surgery. you can get a carpal tunnel brace at the drug store, but if it is bothering you that much, i would stop it. does your wrist bother you when you use the computer key board for a length of time? if so, then it is most likely CTS..
consult an orthopedic doctor, who will take x'ray and give treatment accordingly
It may be due to strain, you should take some painkiller for 4-5 days. If pain does not subside you should consult your doctor.

Should I keep my bedtime?

I'm a high school student, and I usually I get tired around 6 or 7 PM from schoolwork and other things. I know it's really early, but what I usually like to do is tuck myself into bed around 7 or 7:30 and I usually sleep very well. Sometimes I wonder though: is there such a thing as getting too much sleep? I've tried going to sleep later, but it never seems to work out as well. Should I keep my 7 o clock bedtime or try and break the habit?
Answer:
you could keep it if u want to, the only thing is that if u get into sports or dances, parties at school, u may be staying up until 10 or 11 or later.. u dont want to get into going to bed at 7 because then when it comes to do something fun, u will be too tired to attend.. just a thought.. i wish i could go to bed at 7.lol that would be nice.. hope this helps hun!
Studies say that you should get 8 hours of sleep a night, but if you go to bed early and everything works out for you then keep that schedule.
Your body will tell you if you've had too much sleep. I'm usually sluggish and feel drained if I've gotten too much - even worse that if I didn't get enough. It's best not to break your habits, if they work for you. You'll only have to get back into the swing of things when school starts again. If you feel like you want to vary it, do it a little at a time.
I think if you are needing that much sleep, ask yourself if there is something else going on, maybe you are depressed or you are suffering from a low thyroid. Most teens want to stay up late, even though 8-10 hours of sleep is recommended. You should be up at least a couple most hours, you're missing out on your evening! Id be interested to know what time you get up. I work very early, I get up at 5 am, and usually go to bed around 10.
try and see lf you can stay awake until 9:pm then go to bed. l think 7 is to early to retire
At your age you need to sleep! Do not try and break the habit, thats just how your internal clock is set.Sleeping is the time when our body starts to regenerate itself so to speak. If it is not causing you any social problems and you feel well about it then dont change your schedule.

Should i go to work tomorrow?

i've got a lousy cold and i ache all over, have been today but i couldn't be bothered to do anythin...
Answer:
No have the day off...to be honest I had it last week and felt crap for a few days so you could actually feel worse tomorrow..
If you feel crap then don't go! the best thing for you is bed rest!
If you can afford to go and see your doctor. Work will always be here, with someone to do it. Take care of yourself first, then you will be 100% to care for others.
If you were my co-worker, I'd be pissed that you came spreading your germs! People get sick, it's part of life, stay in bed, eat chicken noodle soup, orange juice, and TONS of water. (if you don't like water, try crystal light) Also, take tons of vitamin C, with your regular multi vitamin. Good luck, feel better!
No way! Head up to the beach and take some sun! ;)
When i first read your question i was going to tell you Yes.
Now that ive read the rest of your question, No, take as long as it needs to get better.
Cut fresh lemons up put in a big jug fill with boiling water and add sugar and a bit of honey stir and drink and go to bed and get better.
Stay at home, keep warm and have lots to drink. Paracetamol will help the aches and pains.
Take care and I hope you feel better soon.
you're far too poorly to go to work...and you might spread your germs too! best all round if you stay at home!
get well soon!
m x
Do everyone a favour and stay at home with your germs and dont spread them around. Hope you feel better soon
If you're feeling that bad, there is no way you can work. Especially not up to your best capabilities. Stay home and take care of yourself: The world won't end if you refuse to spread your germs around.
Take a hot bath. Put on your fave p.j.s. Take a shot of whiskey, mix it with some honey and lemon and drink. Get in bed with a good book or movie. Relax. Call in sick.
Stay in bed, dont spread it.cc.
what is the point in going back to work feeling lousy! you will only make yourself feel worse and will result in having to have more time off of work...plenty of fluids warm baths wrap up well sweat it out and take paracetamol...but not with any thing else like lemsip etc because you will be overdosing yourself..do little at a time and often otherwise when you do feel better it will knock you for six after doing nothing.seek doctors advice as well..hope you feel better soon
No definitely not - stay in bed and take painkillers and plenty of orange juice/water!
And have a long hot soak in the bath too if you feel up to that!
In these days of air-con you will spread it and nobody else wants it!
And don't feel guilty!
Depends if you get paid for being off sick.Don't go if you feel unwell. You'll only pass the virus around our colleagues. Stay at home, watch daytime TV with a nice cup of tea, and have a doze on the settee. That's what I'll be doing-had flu, chest infection, and now got Tonsillitis and a perforated eardrum (am ready for the knackers yard)
No take to your bed if possible and look after yourself, medication plenty to drink and sleep that's what you need, and your body is telling you exactly that. Don't feel guilty your sick take the time you need to get better.
Sounds like a day off tomorrow would be justified. In the meantime take 2 paracetamol and if you are no better call me in the morning.
I have a lousy cold also and I am at work today. You might temp me to take a day off Thursay or maybe Friday. I think Friday. Friday is my wedding Anniversary, it would be a good excuse for a day off to spend with my hubby. Thanks very much for a good excuse.
