Should I go to a chiropractor?

My middle back has been killing me for two weeks now. It feels like someone has their elbow in between my shoulder blades. It's not getting any better. Should I see a chiropractor? I'm a little nervous about them making my back worse. I just don't know what to do!!
Answer:
Go see a chiropractor. He will give you the most bang for your buck sort to speak. He has the ability to treat both the joints and the soft tissue parts of the injury at the same time unlike a massage therapist and a PT who can only treat the muscles. As far as making you worse, they are trained in helping not hurting. Besides it's been "killing" you for 2 weeks straight what could be worse.
yeah sometimes it does make it worse. go 2 a massage therapist plus u will feel better. If i was you i would start working out, that helps aches and pains, and walking does 2.
Find a good chiropractor. It will help. Also try ice for 20 minutes followed by heat for 20 minutes. This will help as well. Take Advil for pain and keep up the walking. Exercise is good for pain. Crazy, but true.
Start off by visiting your regular doctor. Back pain can be brought on by many things and you need to make sure that it's not something serious. As a person with back problems, I can tell you that this is not always an easy thing to diagnose. Good luck.
don't go to a regular chiropractor. go to a kenesiologist. they are chiropractors who do whole body movement. they will have you feeling better in no time.
I believe you should go to a chiropractor as they are specialists in back problems. I personally have gotten more relief through chiropractic been any other modality. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor that does kinesiology in your area. This covers the entire world.
Definite no. Do so at your own risk!

Should i go see a docter or is it just normal?

hiya guys, i keep having nose bleeds and everytime i have them my head starts to hurt and my nose hurts, and they're really proper one's, i've had three just today, and i'm getting head ache's i feel really hot and things, should i go see someone or is it normal? shoudl i just put an ice pack on my head so cool it down or.. i'm not sure :S it's borthering me because it's strating to hurt and my heads starting to dully ache and throb
Answer:
Yes, go see a doctor. Nose bleeds alone are not a big deal, but if they keep happening and are accompanied by headaches, something serious could be going on.
GO SEE A DOCTOR NOW!
EMERGENCY ROOM, NOW!
Yes go to your Doctor or ER
you need to see your doctor about this as soon as possible.
heck yes u should go see a doctor
Yes go to the doctor!
Have you been outside a lot in the heat? That may be what is causing it, but if you've been inside and it just comes randomly like that, I'd advise you to go to your doctor.
definitely see a doctor. normal nosebleeds are not preceded by headaches.
1) Stop picking your nose. (haha)
2) Go see a doctor. You could loose alot of blood I think.
Go to the doctor right away. Nosebleeds and headaches are both big indicators of high blood pressure which can cause stroke or seizures if it gets to high. Do not play around with this. Go to an urgent care or ER immediately.
I would go see your Dr ASAP or go to the hospital and have yourself checked out. Seems like you may have some issues with your blood - example, low iron, etc.
This sounds like a severe sinus infection. You should definitely see a doctor. Nosebleeds are not "normal" for anyone, they all have an underlying cause. Chances are, your nosebleeds will be easy to treat. Make an appt. or go to a walk-in clinic ASAP.
DOCTOR RIGHT NOW. It may be a minor problem, but it also be something very very serious. GO IMMEDIATELY!
I think it would be a good idea to go to the doctors and ask for help. You never know. You might get some good info.
A doctor first , a spelling tutor second.
THE END IS NEAR!! 3 VWS FOR UNDER $15,000

Should I get ACL reconstruction surgery?

I went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday to get the results of my MRI and he said I had completely torn my ACL (from a skiing accident in February). He said it was up to me if I wanted to get the reconstructive surgery and that some people are able to build up enough muscle to fully mitigate the problem. I will be 25 years old in a few months, healthy and active. I have a lot of fun plans this summer that the surgery might conflict with, but also need to make sure I have a 100% recovery b/c I have a few goals that require a pretty stable knee (running marathons, etc). I have been doing physical therapy for about a month and a half, and I haven't noticed any improvements. My knee still bothers me everyday, often while walking and going up stairs, etc. but the range of motion has improved a lot since the initial injury. My personal worst case scenario would be to try to rehabilitate it through PT and have that fail and THEN need surgery, not fully recovering for a year.
Answer:
This is a very personal decision and you should definetely involve your surgeon. It is true that many people can live without their ACL relatively painfree...especially if they are rather sedentary. Yes, building up quads and hamstrings can help compensate for a torn ACL. Yet, for someone who is 25 years old, let's remember that you are in a different situation that someone who has torn it at the age of 60. You have a lot more living to do...some of which may require physical agility. Failure to have surgery could limit your ability to ski or run marathons...do you have children yet? Consider the possibility that you might not be able to play in the yard with them, or crouch down to pick them up. God willing, you need to put at least another 50 years on that knee...the more you try to do without your ACL, the higher risk of further injury and degneration you face in the future. Either way, it's good you are in PT...if you decide to have surgery, a course of PT preoperatively is usually inidcated anyway...but it sounds like you've got to discuss some things with your surgeon.
Yes you should get ACL reconstruction surgery.
You are still very young, with a new knee you will be able to participate in the outdoor activities you like when you get older. However after the surgery, remember to continue your rehab. This helps to strengthen the muscles around the knee and helps protect your knee from injury in future. Also, you may like to purchase a knee brace if you ae participating in intense outdoor activities. Better to be safe than sorry. This advice comes from the experiences of my friends who play competitive national-level sports and had sustained ACL injuries. They had the surgery and were back to playing competitive sports 1 year after the injury. This of course entails alot of perseverance, self discipline in attending rehab and the belief and confidence that their knees will become better and stronger.Hope your knee gets better soon!
Absolutley have the surgery. You're young %26 have your whole life ahead of you
Have you talked to your therapist about this yet? He or she would have a good iea whats going on in your case and will be able to give you better advice than you'll get on here. As a physical therapist myself, I'd say that if you aren't involved in any type of contact sports that require quick change of direction, or lateral movements, then you most likely don't need to have the surgery. I have had many patients that have been in your shoes and have recovered completely and were able to function just fine without an ACL. You won't need an ACL to run marathons.I would be completely surprised if you knee was a lot better at this point in your therapy, unles you were able to stay completely off of it. It's going to take some time to heal up, and until then it's going to continue to swell and hurt.My best advice to you is to work real hard in therapy to strengthen the knee,so the knee can support itself. Be sure to focus a lot on hamstring strength, since the hamstring can lay apart in stabilizing the knee similiar to the ACL. Latly, ask your PT to show you stability exercises which will help as well. Good luck!
I honestly feel that you will only be happy if you get the surgery. I was 40 when I had my skiing accident and totally tore the ACL. I chose NOT to have the surgery in spite of the fact that I was very physically active- skiing, tennis, rollerblading, jogging. I worked hard to rehab and was actually able to ski the following season with a brace, and without a brace 2 seasons later, although I did have to give up tennis. Ten years and 1 fall later I have frequent buckling of my knee, particularly going down steps or when running. I know I will have to get the surgery so that I will not be a "frequent faller". You have so many years ahead of you to be physically active. It will never feel like a good time to get surgery, but if I had it to do again I would give up 6 months in order to have a lifetime of activity without knee instability. Good luck!
I advice you go for the surgery then rehabilitation this will accelerate yor return to your activities
My friend tore her acl and she got the surgery and in about 6 5 months she was fine i think its better to just get the surgery done and over with so that then you can live your life and not worry about it not getting better and just getting over wit it

Should I get a spinal injection?

I have been suffering with severe back pain for the past 2 months. The MRI has discovered a herniated disk. A spinal injection has been recommended. Should I proceed with this injection, has anyone been happy with the results, are there any alternate choices? Please advise, Thank you
Answer:
If you have a herniated disk, the injections "might" help with the pain. But, that would be just a "band-aid"... not a cure. The disk will still be pushing on the nerve, and the pain will come back. Depending the the severity of the protrusion, physicial therapy could help to get the disk off the nerve. But once a disk has been injured, it will never "heal" itself. That area will always be prone to protrusion, even after surgery, if that is needed. Ask your neurologist if physicial therapy would help, but be prepaired to make several lifestyle changes, ie not lifting/twising/bending. If surgery has to be done, get it done.. the longer you wait, inflamation will build up in that area, possibly making it worse.
A spinal injection is great for pain but pain only. You will have to do something about what caused that herniation and take the pressure off or when the drugs wear off the pain returns. Try chiropractic where they offer flexion-distraction techniques and or spinal decompression. They will work.
It depends on the severity of the pain and herniation of the disk.I have a herniated/degenerated disk between l4 and l5. I'm only 23, but whatever the case it's painful as a mofo! I had a shot of anti inflammatory medicine, cortisone with not much long term success. I know the shots work. I am actually getting 2 shots tomorrow with different meds and into the joints as opposed to the colume as was before. I know they work because my father has the same issues as I do, but multiplied by 15. He has 4 herniated disks, 5 almost 100% degenerated disks, and bone spurs...he's in enough pain to put down a rhino. But once every 3-6 months, AS NEEDED, he gets the shots and solves the pain for 3-6 months.I would suggest the shots, then chiropractic approach to stretch out the back and try to get the disk back in there.Good luck.

Should I find another doctor??

I have had the same family doctor for quite a long time. I have been having the same back pain for well over a year now. He has sent me to a therapist, %26 had me sent for an MRI. This was also a long time ago. The pain is getting worse, when I call his office to make an appointment, they won't make one for me! They say they will call me back, which they do, but only with a different pain prescription!! When he sent me for the MRI over a year ago, it showed I had some arthritis %26 a disc in my back was a little herniated! If he has seen me in so long, how does he know the problems are not getting worse?? I am very frustrated!! Should I find another doctor??
Answer:
Yes. Definitely get another doctor. This doctor does not have your best interest in mind. You shouldn't have to constantly live in pain. Your doctor should have been monitoring your symptoms from day one and scheduling another MRI to see if your back has gotten worse. I have had to switch doctors myself for the same reason (except with knee pain). My old doctor refused to accept the fact that I have done everything he told me too and I was still in pain and refused to do anything else. When I saw the new doctor, he treated the problem and not the pain and I feel much better. Good luck.
You should go for a 2cd opinion at least.
Most hospital plans will cover a 2cd opinion doctor.
Good Luck
It sure couldn't hurt to get a second opinion. Sometimes I think these dr's get a little lax after we have been their patients for a long time.
well i heard its hard to find a doctor now adays depending on where u are. my advice is talk to your doctor about it tell him how you feel. make appt for something else if he wont see u for that.but if you feel another doctor can help and u can get another one then do that.
amy
Pain is a very touchy subject for some doctors. They simply do not understand the subject. Their patients suffer, and they think that every one that comes into their office asking for pain medication is an addict. I suggest you look for a new doctor, a compassionate physician who will understand your situation. Someone who will sit down with you, listen to you and make the appropriate referrals. If you are in moderate to severe pain, then you need to be referred to pain management. Specialists, who will manage your medications according to your needs. Take control of your health, become your own advocate. If you don't do anything to help yourself, no one else will. Good luck!
Don't abandon your primary care physician. Just ask that you be co-managed with a doctor of chiropractic. Chiropractors are better educated than the average MD when it comes to musculoskeletal pain or conditions. Their "2nd opinion" might help you out tremendously.

Should I feel this way after Ambien?

My Dr. prescribed Ambien and Ativan for anxiety that I have at the moment. The directions say to take 1 - 2 Ambien 10mg at night and 1mg of Ativan every 8 hours for anxiety. So, lastnight I took 1 Ativan around 6 and 2 Ambien at 9. I slept great. However, today, I feel hung over! I feel like I could sleep all day long. It's 3:30pm and I still feel this way. I haven't taken the Ativan today because I'm trying to shake off feeling tired. Has anyone here every taken 2 Ambien 10mg?
Answer:
It usually takes quite a bit of anything to put me to sleep. Two 10 mg Ambien would knock me over. One 10 mg Ambien makes my husband incoherent. Two 10 mg Ambien plus an Ativan. well, you will sleep well tonight as well. I would recommend not taking the same dosages tonight, and calling your doctor, explaining your symptoms, and seeing what he/she recommends that you do tonight. Good luck.
No wonder you slept great! Good lord. I would NEVER take two Ambien. I was prescribed Ambien and couldn't survive the next day on ONE the night before. You have the classic 'hangover' from your sleeping pill. If you can just do the Ativan and sleep with that alone, I think you'll be much better off.If you drink tea, consider purchasing Celestial Seasons Sleepytime Tea w/Valrian root in it. This helps to make you tired but not in a drugged out way.
Look at your prescription instructions for Ambien. The dose is usally 10 mg right before you go to bed. I use it occasionally and can almost guarantee you that I would feel the way you do if I took two Ambien.Talk to your doctor.
here are the side affects for both pills:Ambien:
All medicines have side effects. Sleep medicines may cause next day drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, lightheadedness, and difficulty with coordination. In controlled clinical trials of AMBIEN CR, the most commonly observed adverse effects were headache, somnolence (sleepiness), and dizziness. You may find that these medicines make you sleepy during the day. How drowsy you feel depends upon how your body reacts to the medicine, which sleep medicine you are taking, and how large a dose your doctor has prescribed. Your doctor will work with you to find the dose of AMBIEN CR that is best for you.To manage these side effects while you are taking this medicine:When you first start taking AMBIEN CR or any other sleep medicine, until you know whether the medicine will still have some carryover effect in you the next day, use extreme care while doing anything that requires complete alertness, such as driving a car, operating machinery, or piloting an aircraft.
NEVER drink alcohol while you are being treated with AMBIEN CR or any sleep medicine. Alcohol can increase the side effects of AMBIEN CR or any other sleep medicine.
Do not take any other medicines without asking your doctor first. This includes medicines you can buy without a prescription. Some medicines can cause drowsiness and are best avoided while taking AMBIEN CR.
Always take the exact dose of AMBIEN CR prescribed by your doctor. Never change your dose without talking to your doctor first. Make sure that you swallow the tablet whole and do not divide it, crush it or chew it.
In two clinical studies of patients with insomnia, a rebound effect (worsening of insomnia) was only observed on the first night after an abrupt discontinuation of AMBIEN CR. On the second night, there was no worsening of insomnia. Ativan:
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Ativan. If you experience any side effects, it will usually be at the beginning of your treatment; they will probably disappear as you continue to take the drug, or if your dosage is reduced.
Side effects may include:
Dizziness, memory problems, sedation, transient amnesia, unsteadiness, weaknessSide effects due to a rapid decrease in dose or abrupt withdrawal from Ativan:
Abdominal and muscle cramps, convulsions, depressed mood, inability to fall or stay asleep, sweating, tremors, vomiting
try slacking off on the Ambien to just the one pill and then only as needed. I have taken Ambien with no side effects what so ever, but my brother on the other hand was totally wiped out after the first night on his script. This was to the point of falling asleep on the job and being unable to drive. In other words it does effect people differently. Take care and don't end up toxic from to much meds.
It will make you feel really sleepy I would only take 1 tablet tonight and if you feel the same way in the morning you make want to ask the doc to prescribe you some welbutrin for in the morning it helps boost energy and helps with the symptoms of anxiety
You will feel tired and hungover on sedative hypnotic type drugs like ativan and ambien. If you take the drugs regularly your body will become tolerant to the sedative effects of the drugs, usually after a few weeks of use. Be careful though because tolerance is the first sign of addiction. The withdrawal symptoms of tranquillisers and sleeping pills are no picnic. They are only recommended to be prescribed for 2 - 4 weeks to minimise the risk of addiction or physical dependency.
In answer to your question yes you should feel tired and hung over, they are both sedative drugs so of course.
It is a drug induced sleep as well you are getting not a natural sleep and the most important stage of sleep R.E.M stage (deep sleep) is suppressed by sedative hypnotic drugs so you don't get the full rest a natural sleep gives you.

Hope this answers your question.

Should I explain my buldge?

Okay... before I get booted off the system. Let me explain. I got into an auto accident recently, and my arm got broken. Some people look at me differently because it is hot and I now wear long sleeves most of the time. Should I explain to them or leave them wondering?
Answer:
It's none of their effin business. If you want to be self conscious that's your perogative. But I say embrace yourself. Everything happens for a reason and you shouldn't have to explain yourself.
I would explain. It's not like it's anything that needs to be kept hidden.
Don't bother telling them a plausible story, they will never believe you aren't a druggie.
its nothing to be embarrassed about you should tell them because I'm sure some of the things that people think is a lot worse then just telling them that you got in a car accident

Should I ever go ice scating/roller blading again? More info...?

I have always loved rollerblading and ice scating ever since I was about 5 years old. I had always had a lot of fun. A little over a year ago, I broke my leg. I was just standing there on my rollerblades and I just shifted my foot. I fell on my ankle which caused my leg to snap. I had to wear a cast for 16 weeks. I have also had to have 2 surgeries on my leg since then. (I had to have 2 screws put in and then taken out of my leg. I also had to have my growth plate shifted back into place.) (It was a really bad break!) I had the second surgery about 2 weeks ago. I went ice scating before my second surgery. I had a blast. I am really scared to get back on rollerblades now though. I know it is just as dangerous as ice scating, but I am so scared of rollerblading. I really want to go rollerblading though! What do you think that I should do?!?!?(By the way, I am 13 years old. I broke my leg a year ago.)
Answer:
YOU SHOULD DO IT! NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT'S FUN %26 U LIKE IT BUT BECAUSE U CANT LIVE IN FEAR OF ROLLERBLADES THE REST OF YOU LIFE,,,,%26 YOU SHOULDN'T LET A BAD BREAKE RUIN WHAT YOU LIKE 2 DO! SO YEA HOPE THAT HELPS:)
Yes, you should do it. Just start out slowly, maybe pair off with a buddy that you can hold hands with until you're comfortable doing it on your own.
first, you should do whatever makes you happy. i had a major injury from riding my horses, and sometimes i still get scared when i know something bad is gonna happen, but im up there riding my heart out, doing what i love.
yeah.. if u hav a lot of fun doing it then just keep on doing it. just be a little more cautious this time
Yes but start slowly and progress don't rush!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
Yea! Don't OVER do it... take it easy and dont do and thing that will cause you pain. GOOD LUCK!

(im also 13)

Should I continue to weight train?

I joined a gym a couple of days ago and have not trained before. I am still aching in my chest and arms a bit two days after my workout and was wondering if it would be right for me to go back today or wait for a while??
Answer:
The aching you have is referred to as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). It's perfectly normal and everybody gets it.Train a different part of your body each day and only train a particular body part once a week. Remember, muscles don't get bigger in the gym, they get bigger when you rest them. And if you don't rest them they won't develop. So for example,Day 1 Legs/Abs
Day 2 Back
Day 3 Chest
Day 4 Biceps
Day 5 Triceps
Day 6 Shoulders. This way you can train each body part for longer therefore getting better results. Each workout should last no more than an hour. Good Luck
Wait for a while so your muscle can repair itself. If you are just starting weight training, you especially need to cool it under your muscles become used to repairing themselves naturally.A diet high in lean protein helps your muscles recover. It's also very important that you drink plenty of water.I would recommend you wait a week between working out a muscle group. You can still work out every day, just focus on one muscle group, or two muscle groups that work together, while your body learns to recover from weight training.
maybe you should start training now.but if your arms and chest still ach then maybe you should wait a while.
2 days rest is plenty, just do a little bit lighter of a workout today. As you start going more often your muscles will heal faster and you should push yourself as hard as you can after 2 days rest, but it always is tough when you first start working out. Completely normal, and you won't hurt yourself by continueing to weight train.
48 hour rest between workouts of a given muscle group. If extremely sore, do some light, slow exercise to increase blood flow and speed up the muscle healing and growth process..If out of shape and starting, know you should warmup first at least 10 minutes, for your heart, and use light to moderate weights only, 12-15 reps, 2 sets each exercise, for the first month to acclimate your connective tissue. If still sore, another day or two off is not a bad idea. It also means you overdid the workout.
Hi, you can still go to the gym and maybe work on your legs a bit or do some cardio training - it might be worth just asking an instructor (or whoever took your induction) for their advice as thats what they are paid for.

Should I buy soma from here?

should I buy soma from here?Any feedbacks
http://www.online-discount-pharmacy1.com...
Answer:
these websites are a scam
You cannot buy prescription drugs online. If you get caught you could go to jail.
I order my generic meds from http://www.4rx.net
Their generic version of soma, Carisoprodol.
You can get 60 for around $45, a lot better deal than the website you chose, and i know that http://www.4rx.net is legit. Meds come quickly, and they are authentic. Either FDA, WHO or GMP approved.

Should i become a cna?

the community college has a grant for the program and it might be a good start for me, but, don't know much about cna's please tell me valuable info? thanks.
Answer:
It depends on how much you like patient care. About 80% of CNA's work in geriatrics in the assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Your duties will include taking vital signs and documenting them, moving patients periodically, changing adult diapers and clothing, assisting the patients with bathing and eating, and looking out for the comfort and hygeine of the patient. You may assist the patient with taking medications under the direction of a nurse or physician. You may also be required to do minor administration or secretarial duties such as answer phones, document messages, patient record filing, etc. The pay is around 10 dollars an hour. Its a good introduction to nursing care, and okay for a start if that is what you are looking for. It is demanding and challenging work, and it takes a person with very good people skills. I hope this information helps you.
I wouldn't bother becomming a CNA. I would get a job at a hospital as a patient care assistant (pca) or a patient care technician (pct). There is a small difference between them. PCT's get paid more. Most hospitals will pay your tution if you enroll in nursing school, or school at a lab tech or radiology tech and some other programs. This way you get some experience doing what you will be doing to make sure this is what you want and you can get your degree in a better paying career.
i just became a CNA and i absolutely adore it. just be sure you are emotionally ready for what you will face when dealing with the elderly, sick, or dying. your back will also hurt but it's normal and exercise is a biiiiig help in this field so your body can cope with the physical requirements. if you are caring and hard-working this may be the perfect job for you. while being caring, also be sure you don't get offended or extremely upset at the drop of a hat...because, for example, working with the elderly or people with alzheimer's, they will love you and thank you for all you do one minute, then the next they may try to kick you or call you names. do not take any of this to heart and just understand that it is their condition.
being a CNA is also wonderful experience for life and career. it is also decent money for the small amount of education and training you need.
i don't recommend being a CNA all your life if you aspire to become more...but it is a wonderful jumping off point and if you really like it you can continue on to become a patient care technician or medical assistant
cna's are really peolpe that does the work that nurses don't want to do. They clean butts, brush teeth and basically act as if they are home health aides, which is everything you do at home, just in a hospital or nursing facility. before you start your reaserch on this do reasearch on RN's as well.
CNA's do a lot of the work at nursing homes they feed, and bathe the residents, do range of motion excercises, make beds, give enemas, assist residents with walking, take vital signs, ect. In many schools you have to have your CNA to get into the nursing program. I am currently taking my 75 hour CNA after which I will have to take CNA advanced standing (where we will have a practicum assisting nurses in the hospital). After that is completed I will be on the list to start the nursing program for RN/LPN.
if you like working many hours and getting underpaid than by all means this is the job for you!!The work is very hard, you are going to have to lift heavey people. Sometimes it will take two nurses and when the other nurse isnt pulling her wieght , its like you are lifting by yourself. You have showers to give. You have to feed the residents. Walk the residents. It is a tough job.

Should I be worried?

The other day, I was pitching up a tent, and i felt a sting in my foot, I think it was a bite from some insect. It's really red and swolen and itchy...I also have a bite on my knee, it's not as big. Do you think it's from the same bug? Should I be worried? The bite is v. swolen, on most of my foot, not that bad, just a little bit, and I live in Texas...so, yeah, should I be worried? Please help
Answer:
yes, if it gets infected a serious infection could set in. Apply a paste of baking soda...let it stay on until it dries up...wait about 2 hours...wash it off and do it again...it will help draw out the itchy stuff.
the only thing u would have to worry about is if it was a scorpion. but if not you are probably fine. i would put some antihisamine on it. but if u think u should go see a doctor about it then I would go.
well, is it in a bullseye pattern? Is there bleeding? Are you having any other symptoms. Go to the doc to rule out anything.
If you're worried you should go to the doctor. If you just leave it something might happen for example if an infection starts or a bug layed eggs in it (I've heard this happens frequently) and since you don't seem to have an allergic reaction it might just be that it's bothering. GO TO THE DOCTOR AND ASK WHAT TO DO. IT MIGHT BE SERIOUS!

Should i be worried about this bruise?!?

ok, so i have this round bruise about an inch and a half wide, black and blue in the middle and "normal bruise color" on the outside, on my hip from tripping and falling into a doorknob and my coworker has me all freaked out saying i need to keep an eye on it because i could form a blood clot...and die. it seemed silly to me at first- its just a freaking bruise... but ive been thinking about it tooooo much and now im extremly paraniod. and im pretty sure its all in my head- but my leg kinda hurts... ugg. do i honestly have anything to seriously worry about?!
Answer:
No you don't...I fell down a flight of stairs and bruised my hip and leg really bad. It took a long time for the bruises to heal but it was not life threatening. I was also sore for a few days. I had gone to the doctor's. He took x-rays, nothing was broken and he did say I would be bruised and hurting for a while but that was it.
No, you are not going to get a blood clot and die. If it hurts use some ice on it.
You only have to worry about it if it doesn't go away, other than that you're fine. If it's not getting any smaller after two and a half weeks, I'd go to the doctor. Better safe than sorry, right? But, honestly, I wouldn't worry AT ALL!
It's all in your head. You don't get blood clots from falling on doorknobs. Take a painkiller and keep ice on it to help it go away quicker.
lol sounds like it could be the imprint of the doorknob in the middle (thus darker) and normal around the outside. If you are at all worried go see a Doctor. By the time you read all the different replies from answers you may think your dead. (grin0 Good health to you.
if you are that worried, see your m.d.
otherwise, the blood clot risk is low --- usually caused by an immobilized limb and is most common in the calf.

Should I be worried about my hearing?

i was getting ready for bed last night and I felt a pounding in my ear...felt like the eardrum. It happened again two more times today. Its not painful...the only way I can think to discribe it is that its like putting your head against a base drum and someone is pounding on the other side, and its really annoying too. Its like a muscle spasm..the twitching anyway. Before you ask...no I DO NOT have any kind of ringing in my ear either. Does anyone know what this could be?...i just had another one that makes 3 times today. Should I be worried?
Answer:
One of my ears has ringing, but the other has the
on again/off again sensation that you describe, sort of like the bass in another room is really muffled: but way too loud.Talk to your doc, who may send you for hearing tests to rule out a few things; or he may send you to an Ear Nose Throat (ENT) specialist.
It could be a wax build up, see your pharmacist.
Well I'd seek medical advice.probably nothing to be concerned about.Best to be safe than sorry

Should i be concerned? (read details... )?

yesterday as i was leaving work,i went to unplug my computer from the power strip and after a few seconds realized there was electricity flowing up my arm.. my muscles were rapidly contracting and releasing and my fingertips were burning but i couldn't let go. i grabbed my electrocuting arm w/ my other arm and pulled it away quickly before the electricity had timeto do any more than barely shock the safe hand.anyhow, my arm hurt all night all theway up to my shoulder. my wrist still twinges when i move it or when i'm sitting still. my hand hurts and my fingertips are numb.is this normal or should i be concerned?
Answer:
If you are still experiencing the twitching and numbness up till now, I would definately go get it checked out. Even if you stop twitching and regain feeling...I would still get it checked out. This is just my hypothesis but the electricity might have done something to your nerves or muscles...I am not sure. Although, maybe if you can learn to harness it...you can have super powers. =]Good luck and I hope everything works out.
I'd say give it a day or two and see if the feeling goes away if you got insurance go see the doctor to make sure you didn't fry your nerves. You just had a 120 volts go through you(obviously not enogh to kill you) wich can do some damage to your nerves muscles and heart.
i dont know how to say this...youre going to die.
well....it,s normal that your muscle,s should hurt..they are electrically controlled by your brain...they just got quite an overload...other than that...you will need to give it time to heal..if thing,s seem to get worse...see your doctor..as long as you have full function...motor function, feeling, etc. I wouldn't worry ..but if it doesn't improve .see a doctor..good luck!

Should I be concerned?

I was climbing on some rocks with my bare hands. But mostly with my fingertips! The next day, I noticed that my fingertips were scratched up like anything and those areas were all red and very sensitive. A few days after that, I noticed a white bump on every finger forming, like a blister. But, this morning, the skin was a tint of red and the skin in those areas is shiny and smooth. I also have no fingerprints in those areas. What should I do and is this bad? Should I freak out? What can I do?
Answer:
No you shouldn't. The fingers will heal and the prints will comeback up again. I've scratched my fingers open many times and seemed to mess my fingerprints up but they came back in time. If your really worried go see a doctor.
Make sure you don't do anything to damage those areas and see if they heal. If they don't in a course of a week, i'd consult a doctor.
This is not a unnatural phenomenon but apply some antiseptic lotion like after shave lotion after hot fomentation of the affected area.
Its probably just blood blisters from the pressure used to climb. Don't worry. It should go away soon. If you still feel concerned, you could see a DR. I doubt that there is anything to be done. If they are bad enough, the DR. may lance (cut them open) the blisters to drain the blood. Its best to heal on its own. Hope this helps.
You most likely did have blisters. When you injure an area on your body, lots of fluid with special cells come to the rescue. This fluid makes your blisters. The skin is shiney because it's stretched. I would just watch the fingers. As long as the fingers are warm to the touch and have good color, this should take care of itself. You could use an antibiotic cream on them, if you'd like. Of course, if you're really worried, seeing your doctor is never a bad idea!
try wearing gloves,it's less painful .your fingers will thank you.

Should I be concerned about this bite?

I have a bite, actually 3 of them on my legs. These are not like any other bites I have ever had. It is red and swollen in the diameter of... bigger than a softball, but smaller than a basketball. Pretty big. And it is swollen up about 1/4 of an inch above my skin, it is swollen enough that you can see the swelling through my pants. The center is really hard, and blistering. It itches a little, but mostly hurts. And ever since I was bit, my whole body is sore.
I don't have medical insurance, so I am avoiding going to the doctor; but is this something I should be worried about? I put benadryl on it, and it still itches. It is really hot in that area too. Any Ideas?
Answer:
this is something you need to have checked even if it does cost you some money better the money than your life . I think you need to take this to the dr . good luck honey and I wish you well .
go to er now /
Go see a doctor, it could be something serious to have that bad of a reaction.
Put calomine lotion on it. But honestly, I think you should see a doctor.
I think you should get to a doctor asap.
sounds like tic bites. you could have Lyme's disease. go to Dr!!!
This sounds serious. You really need to see a doctor as it could be infected. Hotness in the area suggests infection. see a docter asap.
SEEK A DR FAST! if your legs are as swollen as u say, that is no normal bug bite.
um you should most def. go to the hospital
but like if you don't have a fever you ill be fine i guess but i suggest going to a med express or something
do it!
Sounds like a possible spider bite. How serious it is depends on the kind of spider bit you. If it was a Brown Recluse, it could be quite serious. At least go to the ER. They have to treat you by law. Even you can't pay.
Bite or infection, if it continues untreted from what you described the worst case scenario is you could lose your leg. Go to the doctor.
Youi have indicated by your swelling, and all the rest that you have an infection, maybe from bites but go the emergency room. They need to treat you! bettyk
I agree with the other answer. There are some bites that require prompt medical attention and someone who knows what they're looking at needs to examine these. Some can even require surgery to prevent further injury. There's no way to say if that's the case for you or not without examining it. Go to the ER or a free clinic or something, but go soon.
You should definitely get that checked out. that sounds like something serious! No regular bite would do that to you! Go immediately it might end up being you down fall.
sounds like you got bit by brown recluse but it does sounds like you rexagerating with size if you are not and it is honestly that big u might want to get some medical attention it will be worth it look up that name i gave you and see if your symtoms are similar
Yes. Go to the doctor immediately. It could be more than one thing. I went to the doctor with what I thought was a spider bite but was actually a staph infection. Don't wait on answers- Go to the doctor now. Tell them to bill you and only pay them a little a month. Dont' worry about the money- Just your health!
I think you need to see a doctor about it. That doesn't sound good, at all. It could be bites from a spider. The size of the bites worry me, as does the whole body soreness. At least try to get into a Care Now, or Prima Care or whatever doc-in-a-box you have in your area. If you end up with blood poisoning, it could be worse.
If you cannot go to the doctor, at least visit your State's local Health Department. They often have nurses on staff with authority to prescribe medications. Honestly, it could be a venomous bite. Some spider bites are deadly. Prompt action could prevent life long consequences or death.Call a nurse at the hospital and ask for advise ... if nothing else! See the link below about spider bites...
It can be something that can be life threatening. Did you feel it with you? GO to the doctor now. Even the ER.
Sucks without a medical insurance, but you know what? when it;s an emergency you go to the ER, you health is priceless!
I am sure you are having a reaction..look how it is! I don't know when it happened but remember there a lot of Community Clinis, there must be one in your area, the're awsome! and they really are ready for everything. They charge you under sliding scale, and they always have walk-in or same day appointments. GO!

Should i apply ice on my knee if i feel it uneasy .?

Answer:
Well it won't do any harm.
It depends on why its hurting because if its internally then you want to get it checked ! If its externally just like swollen then ice should be fine !
ice works by reducing the swelling from an injury.or try a bag of frozen vegetables.
There are two schools of thought in treating knee pain. One says " ice it down", the other "apply heat".Try both, and stick with the one that works for you. Personally, I find that heat helps me.

Should I agree to lower lumbar surgery? It is because of a ruptured L5 disc...?

I have a pinched nerve because of a ruptured L5 disc. It causes pain in my butt and left leg and I have numbness in my foot and part of my leg (about a week and a half). It been going on since May 20th. The actual incident that caused my low back problem started in March when I slipped. The surgery would be out patient non-evasive. But recover time is 8 to 10 weeks putting me out of work for 2 months!
Answer:
If the ruptured nerve is pinching the nerve and causing problems, then you Should have surgery to remove it. This will give that nerve a better chance of healing and you MAY gain most of the feeling back in your leg or foot. If you wait to long, the problem will only get worse and the damage done to the nerve will become permanent. In 2002, I fell 17 feet out of a ceiling on a construction site and herniated two discs. One of the discs was slammed against my sciatic nerve causing about 40% numbness in my right leg from the knee down. I had surgery two weeks later to remove the disc, but I couldn't feel any difference in my leg afterward, but the doctor said it may take up to a year to get the feeling back. I went to physical therapy for 4 weeks, and on the very last day, I ended up re-herniating one of the discs(which I didn't know until 3 weeks after they returned me back to work). After getting a second opinion from another neurosurgeon and having follow-up x-rays and MRI's done, it was determined that the disc was, in fact, bulging out again and causing even more damage to the nerve. I agreed to have an L4,L5,S1 spinal fusion to totally relieve the pressure and re-align my vertabra. Unfortunately, because worker's comp was involved and both doctors had to agree to have the surgery done, I had to wait 6 MONTHS to have the surgery! Well, after all was said and done, it's been almost 4 years since my surgery and I have lost about 20% feeling in my right lower leg and foot which I'll never get back, and I am prone to increased numbness and severe cramping. All I can is to take care of your back no matter what. As a result of MY injury, I can no longer work in the field as a union electrician and I am stuck in the office making $10 less per hour. If you do have the surgery, DO NOT RUSH to get back to work and do as little as possible to aggrivate it again. If you have any questions that you think I could answer, my yahoo address is 'goldenbear733'. I can show you an x-ray of what a lumbar spinal fusion looks like! : ) Good luck!
Did you ask the doctor what would happen if you DID NOT have the surgery? Short term and long term?
yes you should. I had the same problem and I almost waited to long. If I had waited any longer I would have lost all nerves to my foot and possible leg, causing me to never beable to walk again. I will never ever regret having the surgery. Recovery time was not that hard to go thru, I had no pain after surgery and the only nerve damage I have is the bottom of my foot, and I only notice that when I walk barefoot.
I had my surgery in 1991 and have been great ever since. Good luck...
Before you make a decision about surgery you should talk to other people who have a similar problem - and you should talk to people who have had the surgery, and to people who have decided not to have the surgery. There are links below to 2 different online support groups that offer support for spinal disorders and injuries so you could talk to other patients. One thing to remember is that no surgery is guaranteed to give you relief - especially back surgery - and I have seen many reports from patients who had mild to moderate symptoms before having back surgery and then became much much worse after having the surgery. Have you talked to your doctor about your non-surgical options? If your doctor is a surgeon, have you gone to a non-surgeon to discuss ALL of the non-surgical options? What are you doing now to treat the pain and symptoms? How much of an impact are your current symptoms having on your life? If no surgery was available, could you lead a fairly happy and healthy life and manage your symptoms with other options like medications??You mention that your injury happened in March and the majority of your symptoms started in May -- have you done any physical therapy at all? Usually it can take several weeks (or months) for physical therapy to be successful, and if that is an option to provide symptom relief, it is certainly something I would try before going through with a major surgery. What about a nerve block? A nerve block is an injection of a numbing agent into the affected nerve to reduce symptoms. Has your doctor tried that to see if that provides any symptom relief? What about other types of spinal injections? Has the doctor discussed those options with you? There is a link below to info about those options.Has the doctor offered medication management to see if that provides symptom relief? Has the doctor given you a referral to see a pain management doctor? What type of doctors have you seen so far? I can think of several that I would consider having a consult with before consenting to spinal surgery -
Orthopedic doctor
Orthopedic surgeon
Neurologist
Neurosurgeon
Neuro-orthopedic doctor
Pain management specialistI think my first choice would be to see a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor. Specialists in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation deliver comprehensive care to adults and children with neuromusculoskeletal impairments due to traumatic injury and disease. There is a link below to info about this speciality and what they do.Personally, I would try every single non-surgical option before I would decide to have spinal surgery of any kind. I have seen and heard of too many horror stories from people who had surgery and the surgery didn't help but instead made them so much worse. Good luck, and I hope you are able to find symptom relief.
After 3 years of wasted time seeing Orthopedic Doctors and following instructions, as well as physical therapy, it was too late to do anything about 3 herniated disk including the L3 and L5. The neuro surgeon said, There is nothing I can do for you and there is no guarantee ever that surgery relives the pain. I was mad, sad, and then determined that for me, I would just keep walking, keep my weight at 124 and go on with my life. I have done well and I don't lift any thing over 10 pounds. Life is good. Good luck to you as you debate this issue.

Should a waitress wear compression socks?

Im on my feet a lot sometimes. Im a waitress in NYC. Should i be wearing those compression socks that come up to ur knees when i work? I dont want pressure in my legs to give me vericose veins or something. And if so, where can i get them?
Answer:

Shoudl I go to the doctor for a (presumably) bruised rib?

hey I was doing some sparring the other day and got caught with a hard barrage of punches to the chest. i think i have a brusied rib or somthing.its realy in my chestunder my pec. ( I know, I know, Im a *****) Its been like 3 weeks and it still hurts. I can also fel a little pop when I rub it a certainw way, may b a tendon or maybe worse?
all I can tell about rib injuries s that doctors cant do anything about it...anyone know? Should I go to the doctor? Or just suck it up and wait for it to heal/ shoudl I still be training? Anyone know?
Answer:
Go get it checked. It could be a lot worse then what you are thinking and if all else fails they might give you some good pain medication.
If its just a bruised rib they are going to send you packing but might give you a prescripton for something. but it could be worse. i would make an appt at your drs office n go get it checked.

Short of seeing a podiatrist...how can I get rid of an ingrown toenail?

Answer:
well i have the same problem since i was 4. i tried everything ! don`t cut it don`t do anything it will just crack ! and then it will hurt and get infected. You must let them grow ! it will take a while and it will be painfull until it grows ...but don`t tpuch it DON`T cut it...let it grow until the corners get out. wash your feet very often in order not to get infected.
Its best leaving it up to the medical profession so it cant get worse.
See a foot doctor they can help u tremendously. Don't do anything your self u may cause infection then where will u be.
Cut a "v" wedge shape in the middle of your toenail with some nail clippers...it takes the pressure of the side of your nail so it won't hurt while it grows a bit. In the future always cut your nails straight across...never curved down on the sides, thats what causes ingrown nails...cutting off the corners is a no-no!
depends on how deep it is. if you can get under it with a pair of cutters, not clippers, you can get it out yourself and then just keep it from getting too long. if it's extremely painful, see a podiatrist and let him numb the area and cut the nail. if it's necessary, he may recommend surgury to place a metal plate under the nail to keep it from growing inward, or total removal of the nail entirely.
Go to a doctor who will cut the sides of your nail straight down, destroying the base of the nail at the side, so it will only grow straight up from that point. That was the one method that worked after a couple of years of pain and every other suggestion. You might be different, but that's definitely the option I would choose again.People say that cutting a "V" shape on the top middle part of your nail will make the nail grow towards the centre, to fix up the missing part. It didn't work for me.I used to perform mini surgeries on my toe once in awhile, just trying to get that ingrown nail out of my bleeding toe!Imagine doing rugby and wrestling in high school?New shoes is a must. Don't keep shoes that are tight and don't allow your toes space.I had my toenails pulled out (without enough anaesthetic), and I thought that was going to be the cure. The nails just grew back, then started to go ingrown again.Seriously. I love my last visit to the doctor. Some guy just cuts straight down on the sides of both big toe nails, damages the base where it grows from, and I've never had a problem since. I just have narrower nails than others, but I like it.
See a podiatrist.
You can do it yourself, but it's not going to feel good. At least a podiatrist can numb you up. An ingrown toenail comes from trimming the nail too close and rounded. You're suppose to cut the nail straight across. Good luck.
I have been told that you can soak your foot in warm water to soften the toenail then cut a V in the middle of the toenail. I've never tried that so I can't say if it works or not. I usually soak the foot in warm water to soften the nail then get in there and cut it out with a pair of clippers that I have cleaned with alcohol.
The following is from WebMd.What Causes Ingrown Toenails?
Some common causes of ingrown toenail include cutting the nails too short or not straight across, injury to the toenail, and wearing shoes that crowd the toenails. How Can Ingrown Toenails Be Treated?
In mild cases, ingrown toenails may be treated with a 15-20-minute soak in warm water. Dry cotton can be placed under the corner of the nail. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing increasing pain, swelling and drainage of the area. Minor surgery can be performed to remove the part of the nail that is poking into the skin. How Can Ingrown Toenails Be Prevented?
You can prevent ingrown toenails by:Wearing shoes that fit properly
Keeping your toenails at a moderate length and trimming them straight across
Wearing protective footwear
Ouch. Depends on how "ingrown" it is. Many factors with a ingrown toenail. How long has it been ingrown?
Is it infected?
I have suffered with an IG toenail for about 12 years. My left big toenail. I understand your pain completely.
When it gets bad, I soak it in epsom salts and the HOTTEST water I can stand and then cut it. Always be careful in the direction you cut the nail.
It depends on the growth direction. I had a actual "spike of a part of the nail growing straight down into the flesh of my toe". I could not even have a bed sheet touch it. Never went to a doc for it. I just soaked it and cut it. Best thing to do is keep watch of it. You can purchase toenail fungus/ infection products over the counter. Best I found was made by Sally Hansen. I used to paint it on the toe whether it needed it or not. Made it much better.
Dont wear fake leather shoes, let your toes breathe when ever it is possible by wearing no shoes or pure cotton socks.
** also depends on how the ingrown nail started. Was it due to injury or poor quality of shoes or other?
For pain the epsom salts work wonders and aids in softening the nail so you can trim it without as much pain. check out the link I added.
Best to U and your Toe.
K
Yes there is. Soak for a little bit in warm water, take some tylenol. Use something flat, ex) nail file, tooth pick, ect. to lift up the corner. ( Oh yeah, its GONNA HURT! but its better than surgery!)Then take a small piece of cotton from a q-tip or cotton ball, and place it under enough to hold it up, but not to far, and volia, after a couple of days it wil be fixed. (Not to mention right after putting the cotton in, it feels SO much better!)

Short lived sickness question?

My 3陆yr old daughter woke up at about 1am on Thursday and was violently sick. She then continued to be sick on and off until about 10am then it stopped. She continued to have a temperature for the remainder of the day and didn't want to eat, but by Friday she was right as rain.
Neither me nor the hubby have caught it and I'm puzzled (but very glad) that it didn't last very long and wasn't accompanied by diarrhoea. The only thing I'd known her to eat that was "unusual" was some grass the previous day (copying the dog - kids!) Is there a shortlived bug like this going round or did she suffer food poisoning, does anyone have experience like this?
Answer:
Hi Again Rachel - Her in Kent there is a 24 hour bug going round as well as the never ending throat infection and chicken pox. Hope she has shaken it off and you two don't inherit it. Good luck. xx
My daughter has been ill like this a couple of times. They just blow through viruses faster sometimes. Perhaps because their immune systems are on hyperdrive?
it was the grass. Dogs and cats piss on grass. Hope your daughter is ok now though
Sounds like she may have gotten sick off the pestiduces in the grass or dog feces on the grass she may have eaten (Just being real, I know its gross, hopefully she didn't) once it passed through her system, she sounds okay.. or a 24hr flu... just thoughts:)
Being so young, I would take her to your Dr. to make sure she is ok. They do get those 24 hour bugs like we do sometimes, but to be safe, I would make a visit to the Dr. Good luck and God bless.
check her temperature hourly ,since she aint eating it could be anything ,but the grass could have caused obstruction ,is she passing stool or flatus...?
She could have picked up something from the grass.
Although the dog can eat it ( sometimes they are sick ) it is full of bad things, dog and cat poo, and urine , droppings from birds and small animals like mice.
Also the grass could be sprayed with something.
I am pleased she is OK now,!!!
I was ill like that in Japan a few years ago. All I'd eaten was an omlette but I reckon the eggs must have been dodgy coz I was really sick for about 12 hours and then it went away completely. It must have been the grass.
sometimes something just disagrees with them, i wouldn't be overly concerned! glad she is back to normal, it's horrible when they are poorly! m x
yeh e coli poisoning
food poisoning usualy i thinkclean your hands all the time !
clean the knives for meat etcmorning sickness could be pregnant ... lol (31/2) lol

Shin splints?

Help Shin Splints. I have had a gradual build up over months of shin splints. I have seen a phisio. First treatments ultra sound etc. and advised to renew my Orthotics (Flat foot) I did this and had treatment over 6 weeks. I also rested for 6 weeks and began to slowly train on grass. Unfortunately, I am now in the same pain as I was at the start (pain is inside shin near calf) I continue to use RICE. And stretching, but am at my wits end. Do I rest for an other 6 weeks? Any advise welcome nickdarroch@gmail.com
Answer:
You have to relax the muscle...its spaztic right now. lie down life your leg over yur heart and ice it. it helps alot.
yeah, rest is the only thing that allows your muscles to heal. If you could get some kind of topical, or even oral steroid it would speed up the healing process. Ask the physio to give you iontophoresis with dexamethasone. It uses an electrical current to push some liquid steroids into the affected areas.
How do you walk and run, and what condition are your shoes ?A primary cause of shin splints can be a lazy running gait, in which the runner leaves the knees low, and over uses shin muscles to lift the toes so they clear the ground. If it hurts to tap your foot to music right now, that's a good possibility. Same muscle.Thin soles, or worn shoes my not provide enough cushioning if you have a hard landing on the ground.Give them a week off. Then start with some brief running in place, working at lifting your kness so your thighs are just below parallel to the ground. Get you hip flexors stronger so this becomes natural for you.

SHiN splints- soft or hard tissue?????

I am doing an assignment for PDHPE and am not sure if it is a soft or hard tissue injury??
Answer:
Shin splints are a soft tissue injury.
i'm a physical therapist
it can be both a soft or hard tissue injury
could be inflammation or injury to the muscle alongside the shin or could be a stress fracture in the bone or due to overpronation of the foot
check out www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/sh...
hope this helps

Shin Splint?

I recently started walking about 2 miles again. Before I was bike riding off and on. I am recovering from achilles tendonitis in my right leg. So a litttle running about a day ago mixed with my walk. and nowMy left leg hurts.
a couple inches about the foot on the lower leg on the front side. Its a sharpish pain. I can walk but its starting to hurt.
What is it. Just sorness ...or shin splints?
Is it something rest can take care off or do i need splinting...or any other thing. Please helpthanks
Answer:
It does sound like shin splints, which usually happen when starting a new exercise, like running. The reason is the tiny muscle that are in front your leg are not used to the stress of running. Rest usually cures it. When starting running, it is best to not overdo it at first, and not do it every day until your muscles get used to the new exercise. After a while the shin splints will go away.
warm it - stretch it - take an asprin
shin splints hurt like fart hole. just try and be easy on it and if it starts to hurt stay off of it for a little while. ice/heat pack combos should work pretty well to help the pain ease up. goes away with time and more walking.
Due to your achilles tendonitis on your right leg, you tend to shift more your weight on the left side. The pain on your left leg may be a cause of your conpensation on the unaffected side. Rest both legs for a while. If there is no swelling on the left leg but the pain is still there try putting a hot compress for 20 minutes in the area. It will help with your pain and will increase the circulation of your blood. For the meantime if you have any assistive device at home, such as single/ quad cane, you can use it to decrease the weight you are giving to both of your legs.

Shin splint type injury - healing slowly?

So I've got the bane of all active folk, shin splints. The pain is along the medial face of the tibia, I know it's from overpronation of the ankle joint (rolling my weight onto the arch of my foot). I've been taping, icing, and generally resting my legs for almost a week, and the pain is still present even when I'm just walking around. I do swing dancing, I'm eager to get back to it, but I'm worried about making the damage worse. How long do these injuries usually take to heal, and what can I do apart from the above to help it along? I haven't got the money to see a podiatrist just now, but I'm considering bolstering my insoles with some neoprene cutouts... any thoughts on this?
Answer:
This is a great guide that I found for people that came to my Health spa...
I http://www.drugs.com/cg/shin-splints.htm...PLZ note - I am not advising anything- I would just like to suggest a few things-- I was a runner so my training was a lot different. OkMy physical therapist recommended POOL THERAPY or Water walking. NOT water aerobics.I would say that IF you can get in a POOL and lightly stretch- that would really help alot. You are cushioned by the water and it feels so awesome! it couldn't hurt!
Since you're unable to see a podiatrist, your best bet to try to get the best over the counter arch support. You have 2 really great options - one is called Superfeet which is an excellent insert. If you have a high arch, then get the "green" one and if it's low, get the "blue" one. Also another great insert is called Powerstep (can get them here www.healthyfeetstore.com). Any of these inserts will help. They of course are not made to last and will need to be replaced every 3-6months. That's why a custom insert is the way to go, but understandable that finances are tight. Hope this helps!

Shin Bruise - Is this normal??

Hi...yesterday I banged my shin, and it hurt at first like any ordinary shin bump...but then it started to hurt more and more and today it's really getting painful to walk on. I have bumped my shin many times before but never had it get nearly this painful. There is a pretty big bump on my shin. I doubt very much it's broken anything as the pain when I hit it really wasn't overwhelming and the pain didn't get really bad til about 17 hours after. I've broken things before and they usually give you instant pain and would ache long before now. Is this normal? It really is very painful to walk on! Thanks.
Answer:
You might have bruised the bone. The tibia is the bone right there, and there are an awful lot of nerves right in the outer sheath of bone. Bruising that is quite common and quite painful. Ice can reduce the pain and swelling, as can ibuprofen. Don't put ice right on the skin, as it can damage it; put it in a ziploc bag with some cold water to distribute the coldness, and wrap it in a paper towel or washcloth. If the pain does not abate in a couple of days, get it xrayed, you may have chipped the bone. Not much they can do for that, unless it is displaced, but you should know; in any case, small fractures show up on xrays better after a couple of days.Good luck,
Julie

She has a pain in her ribcage.?

OK, my little cousin has a pain in the bones on the side of her right ribcage, but she doesnt want to tell my aunt. does anyone know what it could be? shes 12 years old.
Answer:
It could just be trapped wind or a pulled muscle, but it could also be cracked or broken ribs, its best to tell a grown up, incase.
xxx
No. tell your aunt.
Asthma or bronchitis. Or she just slept funny. Oh, maybe she fell out of a tree she shouldn't have been climbing in. Why won't she tell her mom. Geez.
that's what happened to me when i was getting my period. if she has cramps in her lower stomach and/or lower back she's probably gettting her period.

Sharp pains...left side forehead??

I have this sharp pains that started about four days ago. And they happen right above my left eye on my forehead. And when I move my left eye I get this pain sometimes. Like 10 times a day but come and go. If I go out of the house on a sunny day it will hurt the same!!I've been taking Zoloft, about a weeks now. Can this cause me this side effect??
Has anyone experience this?
Answer:
this may be a symptom of zoloft, or you may actually have a migraine. i think you need to go see your doctor because it may be serious. hope it works out ok =)
it's possible that it's a Side effect of the medicine, although this is not common . You need to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. This sounds like it's a problem in your eyes that needs immediate diagnosis and treatment. Do not wait because this could get worse.
I f you are just starting a new medication, it is definitely worth calling your doctor because these sound like pretty severe rea.ctions. If you weren't taking new medication, I would tell you that your are experiencing a migraine headache. Sensitivity to noise and light is your first warning signal and a pain on one side of the head is definitely an indicator
It's not a side effect of Zoloft (Sertraline). The sharp pain is an indicator of a migraine headache coming on. It seems to be an eye problem. Call your local eye doctor and get an appointment so that they can figure out what the problem may be. Hope you have all the luck in finding out what is causing the pains.
Some causes of brief, one-sided facial pain subside within a few weeks and may never get figured out. If the symptoms persist longer, they may be due to trigeminal neuralgia (once known as tic douloureux), a condition in which the nerve itself is the source of pain. Thus, if the problem persists, see your doctor or a neurologist, because most cases of trigeminal neuralgia respond well to certain medications, though are not usually helped by standard pain-killers.

Sharp pains right under my left hip bone?

It happens every now and again, but I'm experieincing sharp pains on the inside somewhere under my left hip bone. I had felt it under my right hip bone before too. It doesn't come regularly and the sharp pains last for a few seconds and goes away...what is it? A cyst?
Answer:
The location that you are describing believe it or not is the decending colon of your large intenstine... if I understand correctly you mean under to the middle and not under meaning where your leg starts?
If it is the location that I understand it is likely the result of hard stool. That is, if you also have any issues with constipation this is probably related. The best fix is increased water intake and possibly a fiber supplement.

Sharp pains in my abdomin?

im 17 and sometimes i get sharp pains in my lower abdomin,it happens on both sides, but they only last a few minutes, and sometimes when i breath in stronly they get more intense, does anyone know what it is?...
Answer:
Sounds like gas pains. I have had this kind of pain occur before and when it occurs especially for the very first time it can be quite scary.I would recommend not only telling your parents but your dr as well so that they can evaluate the situation to see what they think is going on.
have you been to a Dr. about this? it could be IBS ( irritable bowel syndrome) I have it and sometimes I get those pains, but mine sometimes last longer than a few minutes. I would have it checked out just in case it is IBS because their is medication for it.

Sharp pains in arms, hands and legs?

I'm a 26 yr old male and about a year ago I was in a car accident where I got nerve damage through out my right arm and shoulder. I lived though and I can still use my arm so I'm thankful. But for the last 7 months or so I've been getting very sharp pains that last a second maybe. Sometimes I'll get them in one repeated spot until they stop. Almost as though a needle is piercing my skin briefly. I get them in my hands and feet more then other body parts and I don't know if it id due to perhaps the nerve damage I have or if it is something else. I eat healthy and have a lot of vitamin K in my diet which is good for the blood so I don't think it has anything to do with bad circulation, but I'm just wondering what might be causing it and if anything; if there is anything that can be done to correct it or possibly mellow it out some. Thank you.
Answer:
If you aren't sure, you really should see a doctor. At least then if it is something not realated to the car accident, you don't let it go on and get worse.

Sharp pain on the right side, right under the right pec!?

I guess I'm a HARD drinker, well I'm 28 and I've been getting sharp pains on my right side, above the gut and right under the right side of my chest. It doesnt really hurt but it is starting to worry me. I usually get it during a night of heavy drinking. Any advice would help.
Answer:
It is liver damage. you need to see a doctor before it gets worse. You can die from liver disease and it wont be painless. You liver only digests 3/4 of a cup of alcohol per hour, thats about a little more than a shot. So what happens when your liver can't digest the alcohol is that it goes into your bloodstream. The bloodstream carries the alcohol into your brain and puts your frontal lobe to sleep effectively giving you a temporary lobotomy. This is what you call "getting plastered."So when your liver starts to fail you will not only do more damage to your other organs, but also your brain will get "blood brain" this means your brain will start to literally bleed from the unfiltered, or poorly filtered alcohol.Stop drinking to give your liver time to heal and see a doctor. If you have to go to AA to do than so be it. it is better to look like a fool than die.
Before I read that you were heavy drinker I would have said either appendicitis or indigestion. But maybe you should be checked by a doctor for pancreantitis. I am no doctor but I know someone who was experiencing the same thing. Good Luck
Lighten up on the booze for a while. Drink lots of water, sounds like your liver needs a break.Get some blood work done. That will tell right away if your liver is in trouble.
YOur symptons do not rule out liver damage.however if you are a heavy smoker and combine the two, your lungs extend that far as well.My best advice is to get an xray of your lungs,to check for copd(doctors know COPD),Standard blood tests will detect any liver damage.Good luck,Ive been sober for 23 years.

Sharp pain on outside of foot, Worse when standing or walking, very localized. should I consult a doctor?

I was walking around London this weekend, and it came on gradually, I thought it was just sore feet at first, but it's still hurting two days on and gets worse when I put any pressure on it.
Answer:
Yes, it could be a stress fracture. Get it checked out. However, stress fractures sometimes don't show up on regular x-rays. If it's near a joint, it could also be a bunion developing or capsulitis. I had a stress fracture and then it was discovered that my lingering pain, even months later, was a bunion developing.
You could have developed a stress fracture in the foot. You might want an xray to see if that's the problem. It's either that or you strained a muscle in your foot.
It sounds like either a stress fracture or a chipped bone, Either way, see your doctor, it's not going to get better on it's own, you need to have it in a cast to restrict any movement, you shouldn't move it or walk on it.
It sounds like a stress fracture. Most likely for walking on in a funny way. Go to the doctor for some x-rays. I had a stress fracture and had to be in a cast for a few weeks.

Sharp pain in side when running?

When I run for a long period of time (baseball practice, jogging, etc.) I have a sharp pain in my side, usually my right side.. It is even with my belly button but about 3'' to the side.. Note it only hurts when I'm running, or walking for a while. I usually have to place pressure with me hand or rest for the pain to subside.. This has been going on for a couple of years. Always thought it was because I was out of shape or something.. But I ride my bike daily for atleast 30 min.. I'm 5'6 and weigh 110lbs. (BTW I'm 14)Please Help
Answer:
Although I agree with those who've said 'growing pains', it is also possibly a bit of dehydration. Most people don't think they're dehydrated because they think dehydration is extreme thirst. Don't just BRING water with you, but make sure you actually DRINK it before you go do anything athletic. Water helps all the organs stay 'lubricated' during excercise. Even if it's just growing pains, I'll bet being hydrated will make a difference. Good luck!
Growing Pains. Happens to the best of us. Just be glad you don't have shin splits.
Actually, my guess is that it's simply the ravages and wastes of growing up...Otherwise known as "growing pains." We all get 'em. Don't worry.

Sharp pain in neck..?

i dived into a swimming pool i guess kinda aqurardly ...and right when i got out it started...its been two days and i have sharp pains right in the middle of my neck when i lift my head up and turn my head.so what is it (pulled muscle..or what?) anyone ever done something similar??
Answer:
If it is sharp and burning pain it is probably a pinched nerve, it hurts like hell, but it will go back to normal in a couple days. If it lasts more than a week, go see your doctor.
Go see a doctor, you dont want to mess around with pains in your neck. If it were anywhere else I would tell you to suck it up and be a man but in this instance go to a doctor
Oh yea! Big time. You've pulled a muscle %26 it takes about 3 - 4 days to get better. Try not turning it alot so it gets rest.
well... i have had the similiar problem.. but i had sharp pains for no reason. what i did is when i had the sharp pain i put pressure on the area. just dont try to move your neck when the pain comes it makes it worse. so try it and if dont work then tell me
It sounds like a muscle spasm. That happened to me a couple of years ago when I was wrestling with my sister. I fell awkwardly too and one day I woke up and I couldn't move my head in any direction. I went to the doctor, they took x-rays and diagnosed muscle spasms. I still have neck pain to this day, just have to be carefull with my neck now. Go to the doctor though, cuz it might be something else. Good Luck.
I got similar symptoms from jumping on a trampoline. My best guess is that you may have knocked one of your vertebrae out of alignment. I suggest you go to a chiropractor. I went to one for my injury, and he helped me immensely, and quickly.
It could be a sprain...Use the MUSCLE RELAXANT SPRAY. It helps!

Sharp pain in lower back and top section of butt.?

Three days ago or so, I attempted to lift something way too heavy. A dull ache started on my lower back. I left it alone. Feeling ok and having forgotten about it, later that day i went excercising, feeling a little tenderness. The next day I went for my usual jog. Now, i feel a sharp pain on my left side between my butt and the small of my back (i guess aligned with my pelvic bones in the back). I can almost pinpoint it. Mostly hurts in when I walk and go upor down stairs. Much worse in the morning or after sitting down for a while. better with advil. I iced it and put heat on it. what could it be? is it a sprain or a strain or something worse.
Answer:
Sounds like a muscle spasm, which will relax in a couple of days if you lay off it and take it easy. Motrin helps. If it doesn't go away in 3 to 5 days of pampering, check with your doctor. You may have slipped a disc...one of the vertebrae in your spine has shifted to press on a nerve. That takes a bit more in the way of treatment than a simple muscle spasm. In either case, don't mess with the health of your spinal column by ignoring the problem.
I had the same exact pain, but mine is from a previous pregnancy. I went to physical therapy and was prescribed muscle relaxers and a higher dose of pain killers. I think the pain is a nerve or a muscle spasm.
That is a pulled muscle. When you try to lift or exhalt a certain amount of force that your body can't handle, your muscles around the target area will tighten from the straining. There is really nothing you can do but sit and relax and use plenty of advil. Take a hot bath. It usually helps release tension in your back. A strained or pulled muscle in the back takes at least a week to feel somewhat normal. You just need to relax and let nature take its course.
I would guess that you have pinched a nerve in your low back with that lift.Got to a Chiropractor and get an adjustment, that should fix it.Here are two other helpful solutions. Lay on the floor and put your legs up on a foot stool or the coffee table. Rest the calves on the stool or table, so they are bent L shape at the knee. This opens up the vertebrae and should help to open up the pinched nerve and release it. Sleep in this position also with thick pillows behind the knees. It will help repair the problem faster. Also do not sit on soft and squishy seats. Sit on hard seated chairs. It is much better for the low back. My daughter carries around an upholstered 18 inch square board every where she goes to sit on. She injured hers badly a few years ago and still has problems occasionally. She uses it especially when driving.

Answer:
This could be a herniated disc or sciatica. You have to have this checked out as quickly as possible. I recommend you see a chiropractor first as they really are the best at pinpointing the problem and being able to reduce the pain. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.
Ouch! Regardless of what it is this is your back, and possibly your spine you're talking about, so you don't need to wait until the damage is worse. Get yourself to a doctor or chiropractor as soon as possible. I have a really bad lower back condition that I wasn't aware of until I (like you) attempted to lift something heavy. Pain shot across my very lower back and in a few days I couldn't walk. Went to the chiropractor and had x-rays done, and it turns out one of my vertabrae's in my lower back is slipping past the other... and it's permanent. They educated me, I take precautions, and it only aggravates me every once in a while now. So... get to the doctor ASAP.Regarding Additional Details: Just because it's on one side doesn't necessarily mean it's not related to your spine. When mine gets irritated, it can hurt all the way down one leg, but not the other. It just depends on what's wrong with it. I stick to my original suggestion of going to see a doctor or chiropractor right away.

Sharp Intense Pain In Head During A Flight?

After dozing off for about an hour of flight, before landing the announcement was made to return the seats to the upright position. After returning the seat to the upright position, I received a very sharp and intense pain in my head, so intense it felt like someone had hit my left eye with a baseball bat. For about a minute or two, it was almost unbearable and I started to feel motion sickness. The pain is mostly in the left part of my head near the eye cavity. The flight was in the morning and a slight pain/soreness has followed me throughout the day. I took one advil to see if the pain would subside but no luck. What could this mean? I have heard some pretty vast answers from friends such as: popped vein or vessel in the head, sinus that was affected by the pressure, or a neck muscle that I might have pulled when i sat back up? Any help to what such symptoms might lead to would be of great help. I might end up seeing a doctor if I don't get any answers. Thanks! Mike
Answer:
The dry air on the airplane dries up your sinuses and then the air pressure builds as you land. It can causes sinus pain. It's probably a combination of that and how you were sleeping. It's very common, especially on long flights.Next time, try a couple of Sudafed instead of Advil.
Consult your neurologist.
heres my thought. when people take long air flights, they usually pop an aspirin in their mouth. reason is to prevent any blood clot from developing. now, if you've been in an upright position for a long time, your blood may have become stasis in your head, which may make your blood vessells in your head dilate. when blood vessells in the head dilate, it causes a massive headache. when the headache goes aways, the blood vessells have consricted and back to normal. i could be wrong.

Share a stomachache story!?

Answer:
I don't really know what you are asking here, but if you want to hear about stomach pain I have an ulcer and it sucks. The worse part about this is that you have several different pains at the same time. Cramping, lower back aches, a burning pain right above my belly button, and an overall just pain in my whole stomach area. This really sucks and after 10 years of smoking I finally quit because of this horrid pain.
Let's talk Labor pains. It feels like you are being stabbed with a Crocodile Dundee knife about a thousand times in the same spot every 30 seconds for several hours.

Shaky hands?

my friends right hand started to shake crazily whenever she holds something
what could this be?
Answer:
It could be several things, but one of the common causes of an "action tremor" (tremor when the hand is in use) is someting called Benign Essential Tremor. Here are some links for you -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/essential_t...
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/essenti...
http://www.intelihealth.com/ih/ihtih/wsk...
mine does it too it usually happens when there is circulation problem i would doubt that it happens when his hand is relaxed. Nothing serious mine stops after couple sec

Shaky after waking from nap?

After waking from a nap or if I get woke up from sleeping quickly I feel really shakey. Does anyone know what this is. After a few minutes I feel ok. It doesn't happen after a normal nights sleep just after I;ve been asleep a short time?
Answer:
It happens to everyone. It's called waking up.
You could be Diabetic, could mean your blood sugar is low
it is when u are dehydrated or hungry
It should probably be something you ask your doctor about, it could be related to your blood pressure or blood sugar. I would ask a professional though
when your rem cycle is interrupted your body is week because it has seised energy to hhands and feet legs and other muslele becuase it has no need to use trhem but when full rets your body wake up in nonrem and you have been alert for longer then middle of sleep
I think it is just your blood pressure is low. Take three big breaths by breathing in through your nose and you will feel better. Also, drink some water as you may need to hydrate.

Shaking in my sleep?

i woke up suddenly last night and i was shaking, i thought it was my heart thumping to begin with but my heart was fine,
my whole body inside was thumping but it didn't cause my limbs to shake etc im really confused to what is wrong i've had them a couple of times when i've woken suddenly anyone else suffered this? or have an idea of whats going on?
p.s it wasn't a panic attack as i know what there like, im not on meds, i don't drink/ drugs
Answer:
When I was hyperthyroid, I had the night shaking thing. I'd wake up like you said, only it would be my heart pounding so hard the bed would shake and wake me.Maybe you should have your blood pressure and thyroid level checked.
That has happened to me all of my life. I am 50. It is just your SPIRIT coming back or leaving the body. Try to be awake next time if you know what I mean. It is a wonderful experience if you are not frightened. Look up out of body experiences on the web.
it may well be related to hyperthyroidism -
get your levels checked.
also buy one of those home blood pressure instruments and keep a check on your blood pressure.
could just be something normal when you sleep your body misinterprets it as your body dying so it shakes to wake yourself up its natural that may be what was happening!
i would go to a doctor asap!.doesnt sound good...
The blood pressure thing is called a Sphygmomanometer(pron: Ess-fig-mo-man-OM-itter) emphasis on the OMBut I would get back to your doc and have your bloods checked. It may require a slight change in your dosage.
That's happened to me before too, but I don't have a problem with my thyroid. My aunt has experienced it herself as well. She once thought there was an earthquake or that the bed was shaking from evil spirits. But, it was just her body. I have no idea what it is. Maybe tense muscles? Extra strong heartbeat? God forbid, demons?
it may be after shocks from the earth quake in Kent

Severely chapped lips...they are so bad.?

My lips are so chapped that the skin around my lips have turned red and burn like hell! any remedies- I have already put neosporin, chapstick, vitamin E, cream, and It is getting worse. Is there anything you can suggest ??
Answer:
Have you tried vaseline??.. its a great moisturizer
Try a medicated lip balm called Carmex. Its amazing! If it doesn't help, then go see your doctor.
I have no idea if it would work, but dry some diaper cream...it works on little chapped tushies. I know it sounds weird, but that's the first thing I thought of when I read your question.***I just thought of something else***When my baby was born we only used Aquaphor on her skin...it's like petroleum jelly.maybe that would work better. Oh...and I agree about the Carmex...try that first if you haven't already.
Mentholatum works for me.
Definitely vaseline, I had this problem after a really bad burn. It is the best thing for chapped lips, and it works fast. Just use regular vaseline out of the jar=not their chapstick, its not the same.

Severed spinal cord - hope?

About 1 month ago, a member of my family had an accident which has left him with a severed spinal cord. Currently he is still lying flat trying to heal his broken back and the Doctors have said that he will now be paralysed from the waist down.
The other day my Sister visited him, and when there was no one else around, he showed her that if he pressed a point on his side it made his feet move. I thought that if the spinal cord was severed then there would be no nerves connecting to this area. I think that he is scared of asking the Doctors for further information. Has any body else had experience of this? what happened?
Answer:
It's most likely a reflex reaction - the nervous system can re-route some pathways after trauma.Normally, if the spinal chord has been totally severed, the damaged nerve celss cannot be regenerated. However, without wanting to give you false hope, there are cases of people defying medical knowledge and walking when they have been told they will never do so again etc.It is imperetive that any actions such as the one you have described be described to the medical team working with your family member. Even if it is only to explain it and reaffirm the bad news that this does not change the likely paralysis - until it is fully explained and understood, he will have false hope, which will grow if not checked and he will have further to fall if his hopes are built up.Good luck...
That's a hard question to answer. There are many nerves located in the spinal region. There are many spinal pathways that occur throughout the spine as well. Some cross over at certain points, while others stay on the ipsilateral (same) side. It is hard to say what was damaged in the accident. I guess it may be possible to move certain parts if damage did not occur there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
i had the same thing happen after my acedent but nothing came of it i wish it did but you never know but you should definatly ask the docter good luck i hope he dosent have to go throght what iv gone throght

Severe upper back pain, swollen lymph nodes. Does anyone have a potential diagnosis for these symptoms?

My wife hasbeen experiencing severe pain for the past week.
Symptoms: first there was severe pain caused by swollen lymph nodes behind her right ear; that progressed to severe internal pain near her left shoulder blade which has persisted; if she lies very still on her back the pain dissipates; lymph nodes behind right ear and in neck are inflamed but no longer cause pain
Diagnostic tests: CT scan (chest and back) was negative
Pain medications: doctors have prescribed Tylenol with codeine and OxyContin
Doctors have not been able to diagnose.
Answer:
go see a chiropractor....get her off the oxycontin.Oxycontin is VERY addictive.
fever? pain on standing, moving, certain movement? could be muscle cramp massage, heat. Can the exact point of pain be determined by finger pressure? If so, probably muscle cramp. Deep massage might help. Over stretching after heat would be a help. If the pain is deeper, infection in a vertabrae? Shingles trying to start, compression fracture of a vertabrea? do not let a chiropractor mess around until any serious condition is ruled out. MRI may reveal more. Ever had the same thing before? See an MD first(preferably not an HMO MD). lol
se a Dr asap
An ENT would probably be able to diagnose. Sounds like carotidynia or some kind of inflammation or neuralgia. Lymph node enlargement is a common reaction to something else going on. Try some Aleve or an anti-inflammatory. Valium might also help.
Have they done blood work? FULL bloodwork, check out nutrient levels, hormones, white/red blood cell count, etc. Keep testing. I have a peculiar kidney syndrome that is so rare it took years to diagnose. Once I was Dx'd, the treatment is simply daily potassium. I dropped the hundred pounds I had gained during my "health nightmare decade". I have a host of disorders related to this syndrome because my body was potassium and magnesium depleted for years. Read, research, ask questions, cross reference symptoms, and don't give up. Good luck to her.
