Should I feel this way after Ambien?

My Dr. prescribed Ambien and Ativan for anxiety that I have at the moment. The directions say to take 1 - 2 Ambien 10mg at night and 1mg of Ativan every 8 hours for anxiety. So, lastnight I took 1 Ativan around 6 and 2 Ambien at 9. I slept great. However, today, I feel hung over! I feel like I could sleep all day long. It's 3:30pm and I still feel this way. I haven't taken the Ativan today because I'm trying to shake off feeling tired. Has anyone here every taken 2 Ambien 10mg?
Answer:
It usually takes quite a bit of anything to put me to sleep. Two 10 mg Ambien would knock me over. One 10 mg Ambien makes my husband incoherent. Two 10 mg Ambien plus an Ativan. well, you will sleep well tonight as well. I would recommend not taking the same dosages tonight, and calling your doctor, explaining your symptoms, and seeing what he/she recommends that you do tonight. Good luck.
No wonder you slept great! Good lord. I would NEVER take two Ambien. I was prescribed Ambien and couldn't survive the next day on ONE the night before. You have the classic 'hangover' from your sleeping pill. If you can just do the Ativan and sleep with that alone, I think you'll be much better off.If you drink tea, consider purchasing Celestial Seasons Sleepytime Tea w/Valrian root in it. This helps to make you tired but not in a drugged out way.
Look at your prescription instructions for Ambien. The dose is usally 10 mg right before you go to bed. I use it occasionally and can almost guarantee you that I would feel the way you do if I took two Ambien.Talk to your doctor.
here are the side affects for both pills:Ambien:
All medicines have side effects. Sleep medicines may cause next day drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, lightheadedness, and difficulty with coordination. In controlled clinical trials of AMBIEN CR, the most commonly observed adverse effects were headache, somnolence (sleepiness), and dizziness. You may find that these medicines make you sleepy during the day. How drowsy you feel depends upon how your body reacts to the medicine, which sleep medicine you are taking, and how large a dose your doctor has prescribed. Your doctor will work with you to find the dose of AMBIEN CR that is best for you.To manage these side effects while you are taking this medicine:When you first start taking AMBIEN CR or any other sleep medicine, until you know whether the medicine will still have some carryover effect in you the next day, use extreme care while doing anything that requires complete alertness, such as driving a car, operating machinery, or piloting an aircraft.
NEVER drink alcohol while you are being treated with AMBIEN CR or any sleep medicine. Alcohol can increase the side effects of AMBIEN CR or any other sleep medicine.
Do not take any other medicines without asking your doctor first. This includes medicines you can buy without a prescription. Some medicines can cause drowsiness and are best avoided while taking AMBIEN CR.
Always take the exact dose of AMBIEN CR prescribed by your doctor. Never change your dose without talking to your doctor first. Make sure that you swallow the tablet whole and do not divide it, crush it or chew it.
In two clinical studies of patients with insomnia, a rebound effect (worsening of insomnia) was only observed on the first night after an abrupt discontinuation of AMBIEN CR. On the second night, there was no worsening of insomnia. Ativan:
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Ativan. If you experience any side effects, it will usually be at the beginning of your treatment; they will probably disappear as you continue to take the drug, or if your dosage is reduced.
Side effects may include:
Dizziness, memory problems, sedation, transient amnesia, unsteadiness, weaknessSide effects due to a rapid decrease in dose or abrupt withdrawal from Ativan:
Abdominal and muscle cramps, convulsions, depressed mood, inability to fall or stay asleep, sweating, tremors, vomiting
try slacking off on the Ambien to just the one pill and then only as needed. I have taken Ambien with no side effects what so ever, but my brother on the other hand was totally wiped out after the first night on his script. This was to the point of falling asleep on the job and being unable to drive. In other words it does effect people differently. Take care and don't end up toxic from to much meds.
It will make you feel really sleepy I would only take 1 tablet tonight and if you feel the same way in the morning you make want to ask the doc to prescribe you some welbutrin for in the morning it helps boost energy and helps with the symptoms of anxiety
You will feel tired and hungover on sedative hypnotic type drugs like ativan and ambien. If you take the drugs regularly your body will become tolerant to the sedative effects of the drugs, usually after a few weeks of use. Be careful though because tolerance is the first sign of addiction. The withdrawal symptoms of tranquillisers and sleeping pills are no picnic. They are only recommended to be prescribed for 2 - 4 weeks to minimise the risk of addiction or physical dependency.
In answer to your question yes you should feel tired and hung over, they are both sedative drugs so of course.
It is a drug induced sleep as well you are getting not a natural sleep and the most important stage of sleep R.E.M stage (deep sleep) is suppressed by sedative hypnotic drugs so you don't get the full rest a natural sleep gives you.

Hope this answers your question.
