Should I find another doctor??

I have had the same family doctor for quite a long time. I have been having the same back pain for well over a year now. He has sent me to a therapist, %26 had me sent for an MRI. This was also a long time ago. The pain is getting worse, when I call his office to make an appointment, they won't make one for me! They say they will call me back, which they do, but only with a different pain prescription!! When he sent me for the MRI over a year ago, it showed I had some arthritis %26 a disc in my back was a little herniated! If he has seen me in so long, how does he know the problems are not getting worse?? I am very frustrated!! Should I find another doctor??
Answer:
Yes. Definitely get another doctor. This doctor does not have your best interest in mind. You shouldn't have to constantly live in pain. Your doctor should have been monitoring your symptoms from day one and scheduling another MRI to see if your back has gotten worse. I have had to switch doctors myself for the same reason (except with knee pain). My old doctor refused to accept the fact that I have done everything he told me too and I was still in pain and refused to do anything else. When I saw the new doctor, he treated the problem and not the pain and I feel much better. Good luck.
You should go for a 2cd opinion at least.
Most hospital plans will cover a 2cd opinion doctor.
Good Luck
It sure couldn't hurt to get a second opinion. Sometimes I think these dr's get a little lax after we have been their patients for a long time.
well i heard its hard to find a doctor now adays depending on where u are. my advice is talk to your doctor about it tell him how you feel. make appt for something else if he wont see u for that.but if you feel another doctor can help and u can get another one then do that.

Pain is a very touchy subject for some doctors. They simply do not understand the subject. Their patients suffer, and they think that every one that comes into their office asking for pain medication is an addict. I suggest you look for a new doctor, a compassionate physician who will understand your situation. Someone who will sit down with you, listen to you and make the appropriate referrals. If you are in moderate to severe pain, then you need to be referred to pain management. Specialists, who will manage your medications according to your needs. Take control of your health, become your own advocate. If you don't do anything to help yourself, no one else will. Good luck!
Don't abandon your primary care physician. Just ask that you be co-managed with a doctor of chiropractic. Chiropractors are better educated than the average MD when it comes to musculoskeletal pain or conditions. Their "2nd opinion" might help you out tremendously.
