It's always uncomfortable when you have to go #2, and the courtesy flush has become something of a must. But You Should KNOW that it's is better to make people pinch their noses as embarrassing it may be than TO GET feces and bacteria shot up your very unprotected behind. You can really catch potential diseases and bacteria. Don't courtesy flush there are studies showing how the water spurts up when the toilet is flushed : )

Not sure you should be that worried about the bacteria - they've just come right out of your behind in the first place and it's highly unlikely they will be 'shot up' your behind. The studies you refer to are highlighting the importance of putting the loo seat down before you flush to prevent potential aerosols containing pathogenic bacteria. It's also a big waste of water in an attempt to cover up something that everybody does.
